What would you do

Hi sorry to pick your brains (AGAIN!) OH and I spoke last night we know that although we have to go for further tests with hosp that we are going to need help to concieve, we are going to go the private route no question of that but do you guys think we should get the initial tests done threw the nhs then go private or just go private from here on in, the clincs say it could cost up to £2000 just to pin point the problem just wanna know what you guys would do.

I know theres tests that are required when you go private that could be done on NHS - What yo are best finding out is what test are required for your journey & getting what you can on the NHS.

I thing for IVF you need HIV & STD tests for example - girl on care fertility forum told me & if you get done for free you just provide proof of test & results.

I do believe they have to be done within 3 months of treatment maybe or consultation - I could be wrong x

And don't worry about asking questions 'again' as you said - thats what here is for hun ... I think Helen will be a good person for alot of your questions along the way & such a fab woman too

Hey Stacey

I'd take it one step at a time and decide on a test by test basis. Some of the NHS ones you don't have to wait that long for or you can just walk in and get done, so no point paying. All the sexual health tests like HIV etc were easily enough done on the NHS (and yes these are only done within 3 months of starting IVF) and any blood tests the same. Swimmer test we paid for privately and appointments with specialists we paid for. Check how much everything costs as you go along and decide whether you want to pay or wait. Our specialist was pretty helpful too and suggesting which we paid for and which we didn't.

Hope that helps.

Helen

Its worth mentioning that some clinics offer a package deal on the infertility investigations and screening tests. My Hubby and I paid only £395 for basic infertility investigations and HIV screening at Midland Fertility Services.
Tests included sperm analysis for Paul, an ultrasound for me, Inhibin B test (Tells you how many eggs you have), a basic hormone and thyroid function.
-Have a look online and see what the clinics in your area offer as a package deal, then weigh it up against the time it will take to get these tests done on the NHS.
