Louisa,
I just finishes talking to my doctor yesterday and he doubts that I have a progesterone deficincy, but just to cover all the bases, he gave me progesterone supplements to help. I am to take them 2 to 3 days after I ovulate. The medicine is called prometrium. I hope this helps a little.
Oh and progesterone helps get the uterus ready for implantaiion of a fertilized egg. It makes you body become an incubator so to speak. Good luck!

I have low progesterone. It causes me to not get pregnant so my DR put me on Clomid, because that makes a stronger corpus luteum, which produces progesterone once the egg is released-to build up the lining of the uterus, and to maintain a pregnancy. The Clomid worked on the first try, but, I lost the pregnancy. That was the third time losing the pregnancy. So, now we are starting Prometrium on CD 16 as well as the Clomid. My progesterone, the last time it was tested, was very low. It was an 8.

Can anyone offer some insight please. I just had my progesterone level checked 7dpo and it was 3.7 which from what I understand is extremely low and would signify that I didn't ovulate this month. But I got a positive opk result and I felt my usual intense ovulation cramps simultaneously. Just to give a little background: I have had two miscarriages in the past nine months-both at 8 and 9 weeks gestation after seeing heartbeats on both. I have since realized that I have a very short luteal phase-7-9 days-and I am in the process of being worked up before seeing an RE next week.
Thanks

Two things could be going on here: either you did in fact ovulate and then your progesterone dropped very quickly or more than likely you had an LH surge but in fact did not ovulate. Remember that the OPK does not guarantee ovulation. It just means your body is geared up and ready to ovulate but sometimes, it doesn't happen, even if you had cramps.

Do you temp? A temp chart would be a better indicator of ovulation at this point due to the elevated temperature. If not, the only way to know for sure if you ovulated is to have an internal scan. I've had several at my RE's office and they can tell which ovary you ovulated from. If you do a scan also ask them to measure your endometrium lining to make sure it's thick enough.

All these things together will give you a better picture regarding your progesterone levels. I've had lots of progesterone issues so I know quite a bit about this stuff.
