Weird, weird fertility appointment

Well, it only lasted five minutes. If that. I went in feeling really nervous, actually, and hoping to Christ I was not fobbed off, so to speak, because you hear so many horror stories, don't you, about people being told to go away, to relax, etc.

OH's sperm results were fine. Perfectly normal. And, despite being told that my hormones were wonky I was told "Well, they don't indicate PCOS or anything like that so it's not a worry!"

He said I had endometriosis in the pelvic area that was "borderline stage 2" and that, whilst it is known to spread and worsen at this stage it is not going to affect my ability to get pregnant because it is not blocking any of the tubes.

He said that "the only worry he has is my overly long cycles and the fact that I do not ovulate as regularly as I should" - i.e. in all the time I have been temping I have only had confirmed ovulation around 50% of the time and that my cycles are often 50 days plus yet can be as low as 23 days.

So, he has given me a six month supply of Clomid at 50mg but "if I don't ovulate this month to up it to 100 mg"...

He has given me an appointment in four months time and if I am not pregnant by then he will put me "straight onto the IVF waiting list."

No mention of IUI, no mention of ICSI...straight to IVF waiting list. And, get this...

"It should take 3 - 4 months for you to get to the top of the list because we were told to use the excess money we had or lose it!"

I looked shocked and, as I said to him, "When I was here in July I was told the waiting list was four years."

"It was," he said. "It's not, now."

So...in 7 - 8 months time, if I am not pregnant I could be starting IVF.

WTF?

OMG!!!!!!

I cant beleive you actually found the one fertility doctor in the whole world that can actually do something. Why cant all doctors be like this.

Thats amazing that they have given you clomid - i know its scary - but at least its something positive and something constructive and could be the answer to all your worries.

AND to get IVF in potentially 7 - 8 months is incredible!! Again - i know it will be scary to go down the IVF route - and I really hope that you wont have to cos the clomid will work - but knowing that it is there and that it is available and so soon is a real comfort.

I am sooo happy for you sweetie.

Mine has all seemed very quick actually. OH said that to him, he said "from the times we have been quoted it has all come about very quickly" and he said quite simply that they are working hard to get down the waiting lists because it does them no favours!

As for Clomid, I knew I would have to try it simply because I probably only ovulate about five times a year, if that. I know that over the eight cycles I temped I only ovulated 4 times so it was very 50/50

OH have agreed that we will take the free IVF tries (not sure if its 1, 2 or 3 goes) then will try two more times before rethinking things. I was not in a million years expecting him to tell me that the waiting list was only 3 or 4 months though, not since when I was there in July (July 31st to be exact) another woman on the ward told me that the waiting list she was on was four years long.

God, so mad!!!

North West of England. How long has your waiting been?

Took me awhile to get referred from GP but since that happened I have had it really easy. Really quick.

I just want it to work. I know I ovulate sometimes and the months that I have ovulated have not got me pregnant so I suppose I am just a little sceptical about what Clomid can actually do for me.

Glad everything went well!! That all sounds REALLY promising. Now the endo has been treated and you've got clomid to regulate your cycles etc. You could very well end up getting pg the old fashioned way!

I wonder why he wouldn't want to try IUI before IVF since the sperm is ok? Lets hope you don't need either though and get your BFP very soon.

LL - I have a box of clomid thats been sitting in my cupboard for over 6 months - unused. I'd give it to you if I could!!!
