Letrozole Step-Up Protocol

Has anyone done the Step-Up protocol with Letrozole? You would take one pill on CD3, two pills on CD4, three pills on CD5 and four pills on CD6. Another doctor is saying just to take one pill each day starting on CD3 and ending on CD7. Can anyone explain the purpose of the step-up doses?

Hi Moodie, I'm afraid I'm not familiar with this. What is it for?

Letrozol is like Clomid but much safer and has less side effects. I took one 2.5mg pill for 5 days starting on CD3 a few cycles back but I over stimulated after taking two days of Puregon. Now the fertility clinic wants to try the step-up protocol as I decribed. I'm going to call to get more info but just wondering if anyone here has done this protocal.

I think I have taken letrozol. Isn't also called Femara? You can see from my siggy below that I have had 2 rounds of Femara 5g. The first time I took 2.5 mg 2 times daily on CD 5-9. The next cycle I took 2.5 mg 2 times daily on CD 3-9. I responded well to the drug. The 1st time I had 2 mature follies and the 2nd time I had 2 possibly 3 mature follies. Unfortunately I haven't gotten a yet but I thought I would share my story.

Good Luck! I hope you get your very soon!!

Yes, the trade name is Famara. I've already had two doctors suggest Letrozole over Clomid.

I used letrazole - but not the step up protocol. Agreed - it sounds an odd thing to do if the result last time was overstimulation. Sorry no help - are you going to get another chance to see the consultant before you do it?

I just talked to the nurse and this time they would try the step-up protocol and not use the Puregon after the Letrozol. I guess it was the Puregon the over stimulated me. She said everyone reacts differently and they need to find what works for me.

Ah - well that makes more sense - I got overstimulated on the lowest dose of Puregon too - sounds like your clinic liked the same drugs that mine did.
