I'm Currently Feeling: | I know what you mean about sperm Mendy. My DH is the same, non smoker, not overweight, looks after himself, eats well, is active, a few beers here and there and thats it and his sperm is so bad in everyway. Yet some lowlife drop kick who is a drug addict, alcho, heavy smoker, treats his body like crap can have normal sperm...Its just not fair!!!!
Wow...those IVF prices are really scary. What is the go with health insurance if you swapped to a company that would cover IVF? Have you got to be with them for a certain amount of time to get cover on something like this? Have you thought (but hopefully this IUI will work and you won't have to!) about travelling o/s for treatment? I know that would be hard with extra expenses such as travel, accomodation, time off work etc but it might just work out cheaper.
Just some food for thought for you. This is a link to my clinic regarding international patients http://www.sydneyivf.com/AboutUs/Wor...3/Default.aspx
You'd be looking at around $9,000 for a full cycle (FS appointments, tests and some drugs are not included) so if you took that + air fares + accomodation and time off work you'd not really be saving any $$$ BUT there are much cheaper clinics here in oz so if you want anymore info just let me know.
I hope you don't mind me posting that in this thread...i'm hoping so badly that you don't need the worry of all of that and that IUI works for you |

No, I do not mind you posting that on this thread, I have to be realistic, and I have to face the fact that this may not work and I may end up having to go through IVF. So I need to start looking at all my options.
I suggested o/s treatment to DH, but he started doing the math and it seems like it would end up costing about the same with lodging and air travel, plus we would be missing days off work, so that would be that extra money not coming in. Of course, we just took the average $9,000 into consideration (I believe you mentioned that figure to me before) and it may be more than that.
As far as switching insurances, we've been researching and we've found that not too many insurances cover IVF, and those that do only cover about a third of the costs. That's what I've found for California, at least, I'm not sure about other states. We are planning on moving to Texas late next year, and we will have to see if it's cheaper there, and if it is, we may have to wait until then.
But you are right, over and over I keep asking myself why we are going through this. DH has never done any of the things recommended not to do when TTC, yet we still have this problem!
Oh, BTW, I looked at the Sydney IVF link....wow, how informative! Just by reading and going through a few of their pages, I felt so hopeful and felt like they can help me too! If it was any way possible for me to travel o/s, I would love to get treated at that clinic, they seem so professional and helpful! Thanks for that link, it definitely gave me a better idea on how IVF works!
But for now, all I can do is hope and wait!!! |
