Financing IVF?

How did those of you who have had to self fund their IVF manage to afford it? How long did it take you to save up?

We have to save up almost 4k and hoping to do so by February by saving a portion of my income each month ( around £400) and also by cutting back and putting what we can aside there. Any shortfall will be made up by credit card I think! Hubby had £300 in a bank account he forgot about and £400 in another savings account.

We have just swapped our utilities over and saved almost £200 there which will help too.

It is difficult huni, we had money saved for wedding / honeymoon but when knew of our difficulties decided to keep wedding guest list down just go without honeymoon as a family was more important also we have our own business with the horses so saving all we can also my dh got shares in his dads building company (where he works during week) sometimes makes it more difficult tho as not working from set wage, we are trying to keep spending to minimum only spending what we have to to make sure we can do our best to try and make sure we can continue on this journey as long as it takes. Hope u get all together huni sure u will

xx

We had been saving whilst TTC to allow me to take time off work if I fell PG. So we used some of that. Also, I guess cos we're a bit older and I'd sold a house to move in with DH we had some savings anyway.

Might be worth finding out if your PCT will fund the drugs if you pay for your IVF cycle. Could save a few quid there!

You have enough for a go. When are you starting?
