I'm Currently Feeling: | Well we got the results and apparently they're a bit low. The count was 46 million and she said normal is between 50 and 500 million, and the motility was 43% which apparently is slightly low too. She did say one test is not reliable as lots of factors could have affected the sample, so wants him to do another test in 3 or 4 weeks.
Anyway, just about to do some internet searching to see what I can find out about what we can do to improve his sperm count etc. Any advice would be really appreciated from anyone who has experience with this.
OH is pretty down about it and feels like he's let me down - which I'm reassuring him about but I know it must be a horrible feeling. Why is nothing ever easy? Anyway, going to start googling to find out exactly how low this is, and how much we need to be worrying. If the top end of normal is 500 million, then 46 million sounds pretty bad to me - what do you think?

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hi Hayez,
My DH had his swimmers tested a few weeks back - I know what you mean about the waiting for the results - it's a killer
His results were fine (they tested loads of things, ie done sperm count, tested to see how long they lived etc, the quality)
As we have been ttc no.2 for 15 months without any luck, I have now been referred to see the gynaecologist - got my first appointment on 5th August.
Good Luck Hun - hope all goes well
Max xxx |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Sorry Hun - looks like we posted around the same time.
It doesn't sound that bad to me - he's not far out of the range by the looks of it.
I know zinc and magnesium are good for giving the old boys the extra strength. I had my DH on them both for months!!!
Green veg are good too - trying to get my DH to eat them is a battle in itself!!
Tight underpants are a no- no for him too.
Good luck Hun xxx |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Boosting sperm count
Zinc and folic acid have both been found to help boost sperm count because they are essential to the creation of both DNA and sperm. You can buy both supplements at most drugstores.
Brazil nuts are rich in selenium, a mineral which boosts sperm production and improves their swimming ability!
Lycopene, which is found in tomatoes, helps produce healthy, agile sperm. You’ll get more of this from cooked tomatoes or ketchup than from raw tomatoes.
Vitamin C has been found to assist in the making of properly functioning sperm and stops them from clumping together. Around 1000 mg of Vitamin C a day is enough.
Go organic Declining sperm counts have been linked to hormones and pesticides that are present in the food we eat. By going organic you can reduce your exposure to these fertility-zapping chemicals. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Thank you so so much for your replies. Was talking to him afterwards and he seems really up for trying anything to help so think we are both going to be really good with our food and get him lots of supplements. I will print out the info you have sent me and we'll try everything!!
The other thing is, I held the jar on the way to the hospital and when we got there I realised I'd made it really warm (it was a hot day anyway) so I'm not sure if this could have affected it at all. Maybe I'm just clutching at straws though.
Anyway, I was upset after the appointment but feeling a bit more positive now. Looking on the internet I seem to be seeing everywhere that anything under 40 million is low - OH had 46 million so that was above that so maybe it's not quite as bad as we thought, although I think the 43% motility is pretty low.
I'm wondering whether we should get him retested in 3 to 4 weeks or whether we should go for these diet changes, supplements etc and then wait and test him again in 3 months as I understand that's how long sperm stays in the body for once it's produced? what do you think?

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hi Hun,
I would get him tested again in 3-4 weeks, as if the results have changed for the better, he will be less stressed about and worried about it. Stress can have a negative effect in spremies!!!
If you try all the supplements and diet changes in the mean time, they may be super swimmers when he next gets tested
It will all be fine Hun - I really don't think you have any cause to worry
