Hsg???

Following on from my appointment with the gynae, I need to have a HSG. I've had a letter from the hospital saying I need to ring to make an appointment on the 1st day of AF (which is due on Friday).
Does anyone know if the HSG has to be done at a particular time during a cycle?
Thanks

I just had it done on CD7. My doctor told me CD7-11. You cannot be on AF when you get it done.

I had my HSG done on CD10. It has to be done after AF has finished and preferably before OV. The hospital also made me sign a disclaimer to state that I would abstain from prior to the HSG to ensure no early pregnancy just in case the procedure was done after OV.

I'd also like to mention that regardless of the horror stories you may hear about from friends, or read about on the internet, it isn't that bad. It's a bit uncomfortable and you'll feel slightly crampy, but its not excruciating. Before I went for mine, my so called best friend told me that it was excruciatingly painful. I was a bag of nerves and burst into tears when I went into the x-ray room. So try not to worry about it hun.

Good luck

xx

I just wanted to pop in and say good luck! Make sure you take some Tylenol (or something similar) beforehand, b/c it will help on the discomfort level....

I was told they like to do it on the first part of your cycle.

Just on what chefamy said about pain relief. I didn't take any before I went as the hospital told me they would give me the right strength an hour before the procedure. If you've taken any yourself before you go they might not give you any. They also gave me a relaxant as well.

Yes there are some women who didn't feel a thing, but there are other like me who did! Just take someone with you, take sanitary towels for after, take painkillers beforehand, and relax. The fear is deffo worse than the procedure itself, but it can be really uncomfortable/painful. I found the cramping afterwards really intense, but then I did end up getting an infection after, so watch out for cramping lasting more than a day or two, and any discharge or fever.

I had mine done on cd8 - they wont do it when you are because they don't want to flush blood back up, they won't do it after ov in case they flush away a beany.

Good luck!
