Help! TTC after Depo!

Hello to anyone that would like to read my journal.

After reading other posts I thought that i would send one of my own!!

I’m not sure if I qualify as a long term ttc but here goes:

So about me
My name's Anna, I'm 24, my DH is 28. We've been together for 4 yrs and TTC for 13-14 months.
I was on the depo shot for 5 year and came off it April 2007. Nothing seemed to be happening for me at the 12 month mark so i went to docs and was put on provera for 3 months. it seemd to work as it did bring back for the first two months then on month 3 no so dr has now referred me to see a gyne in the hope he'll put me on clomid

Well in the mean time i've got married and while away on honeymoon the came back - first of all just spotting but then turned to light flow and last 20 long painful days! she finally left yesterday.

This was the first unaided by meds so i'm now cd20 and according to the charts my most fertile week of this cycle so lots of bding for me and hubby this week.

I had an u/s scan yesterday to rule out PCOS amoung other things although GP has already tested i guess it's just one of those things gyne has to do first. (got the all clear there – everything normal) Then back to gyne on 31st

I know a lot of you out there have had to deal with this after depo and just wondered if there were any questions i should ask or things to say to get answers as my last appointment was a disaster!

Anna

Clomid seems to be the first fertility drug that Doctors perscribe when there are signs of infertiliy. My fertility specialist had me come in on CD3 for a full bloodwork. FSH, Estrogen, Thyroid hormones, Glucose, Prolactin, and testosterone. Then on CD21 to check for pregesterone to see if I ovulated. Unfortunately Clomid had no effect on me for 3 cycles. Are you charting to see if you are ovulating? Keep updated on your appointment

At the moment i'm not even having real cycles.
Nothing at all came back after depo until my dr put me on provera for 3 months - the first 2 months i had slight AF then third month failed. then all of a sudden while on honeymoon a started bleeding and it lasted 20 days. Don't really know what's going on at the moment.

Oh the dreaded Depo! I had one shot last october and since december(when my 2nd shot was due) i have had nothing but problems with AF! I am now being told by Dr's i need bloods done on my next cycle to see if i am ovulating as there is now talk of me having PCOS!! I know they say it can take 12 months for your body to return to normal though so maybe its just time to play the waiting game. Good luck with it all and i hope you get your soon.

A friend of mine went to the dr to get the depo shot and the gp refused to give it. said it should only be used in 3rd world countries to stop the spread of disease - what does that tell you about it! I wish I'd know then what i know now!

The Dr said the same to be about PCOS but i think they always have to rule it out as that's one thing that can stop periods they dont' like to assume it's just the depo even when you tell them it used to be as regular as clockwork before.

Bit of a nightmare I know but after being clear over a year you'd expect to get something!

My god if only i had known the horrors of the depo! I had a scan and due to there being 1 lump/cyst i have been told i have got pcos! i have argued this and am now awaiting AF so i can have further tests. I truely hope you get your situation resolved soon hun

i had a scan a year ago and there were signs of cysts but that could have been folicles developing due to hormone changes and then the one i had the other day was completely clear no sign of cysts at all and everything else was normal. I think DRs are so quick to blame other things than to deal with the consequences of depo
they don't seem to know enough about it.
The registrar i saw the other day kept going on about the effects of radio and chemo therapy causing absent AF - i have even had or been near anyone that has had radio or chemo the women was an idiot!

A few people i know that have had the Depo seem to be told the same thing regarding PCOS. Yet a friend of mine said that due to the depo stopping ovulation the egg then becomes a cyst and therefore Dr's assume pcos! I just dont get it they are health professionals yet they just sit there spout a load of rubbish and send you on your way! I just hope my cycle returns to normal in its own time without the "help" of medical intervention.

That Depo has a lot to answer for! There are millions of women around the world in exactly your position ( I googled it once and came across more information than I wanted to read!)=- I had depo too - took two years for cycle to return, apparently 12 months in the norm. There is not enough information given to patients who take Depo, BEFORE they have it. We only realise the problems when we are TTC.

Perserve with your Dr's and please know that this is not your fault. I did find after the provera (sp?), and clomid, I was soon on a more regular cycle.

Take care, good luck.
