The HSG is also known as the dye test. I had it done at the beginning of January. Basically they insert a small catheter into your womb and syringe a contrast dye into your womb and through your fallopian tubes to the ovaries. At the same time they are taking a real time xray to show what your innards look like. It shows any abnormalities of the womb, any blocked tubes, etc. Its not the nicest thing in the world but it's not as painful as my friend led me to believe. I experienced mild cramping similar to period pains but once hubby treated me to my lunch afterwards I surprisingly felt right as rain.

BTW - I had mine done CD10 and didn't register a peak on my CBFM that month. I had registered high CD9 and the morning of CD10 but didn't get my peak which is unusual for me. I'm assuming that that month was ruined due to the HSG.

Not sure about the laparoscopy. I haven't had it done. But I believe it is something they do if the suspect something as a result of the HSG or if they need to remove fibroids, endometrial tissue, etc. But I might be wrong on that one. Someone else is bound to have had it done.

HAYS, maybe you should push to get an HSG or a Lap to check your tubes. They can't possibly know whether your tubes are clear and if everything's ok unless they look. I just assumed they did that as standard procedure as part of investigations before they looked at treatments.

Hey LL and other girls with questions,

After it was confirmed through bloods that I was ovulating, I had a hormone blood test count which was normal, then had a pelvic ultra sound which was also normal, I then had a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, D & C, dye test and uteral biopsy.

Basically it was to rule out anything from blocked tubes, endometriosis and to make sure the biopsy came back fine - eg non cancerous.

With the laparoscopy (as well as other tests I had done) its a day surgery and they do it via keyhole, it usually goes hand in hand with a hysteroscopy. You have a general anaesthetic and they make a small incision in your belly button, a tiny camera goes inside of you so they can have a really good look around inside your uterus, they can tell if you have endo for example from this as well as any other problems with your uterus and ovaries.

Hays - I think it would be a good idea to suggest this surgery to your doctor, because as AG said, age has nothing to do with it, endo for example can affect someone in their teens.

So from here on out LL there will probably be lots of other tests and I would definitely be requesting them. They aren't pleasant and they can be scary but at least then you know for sure.

I know of quite a few girls whos Dr's have done no tests other than 21 day pg, they've then done a few IUI's and IVF cycles all resulting in BFN, THEN they've done the tests and found out why nothing was working - endo's or cysts or something. Then they've cleared up endo or removed cysts and voila, BFP!

loopylew... i am in sort of the same situation as you, my cycles are so irregular and they cannot test to see if im ovualting because they wouldnt know when to test so i have been given clomid.

clomid not only makes you ovulate it also regulates your cycles back. when we use opk and cbfm is shows we are getting the hormone increase but it doesnt actually mean an egg is being released from your ovaries.

i have got my scan next week to see if the follicles are being produced and released.
what are yoour cycles like?? if they are irregular this may be an option for you.

My cycles are 33 - 37 days so thats not really classes as irregular is it?

i have endo and i know that can mess with your ovulation so they sometimes give clomid for that i think

yes i think they do bird, my cycles are normally 35 days but then sometimes i have 51 days!!

I went to the docs and was told that my PCT basically does day 5 and 21 bloods for me and SA for DH at the same time. Then after that they do the bit where they put dye in your tubes to check for blockages... after that she said i would prob be pregnant! Nice she has so much faith!!

So they would class my cycles as irregular?? hummm maybe they will give me clomid then....come on August 27th i want my appointment now.... been waiting since 6th May

There is no average cycle for me, seems to be anything between 31-47 days, usually somewhere in 30's, although in 11 months had two over 45. This month i appear to have ovulated on cd27, which is later than normal by a couple of days. I usually start spotting from 6dpo and AF arrives between 6-8dpo so i think something is seriously mixed up. My next Specialist appt is 30th Sept so i hope he does something then, at least some tests
