Got my husbands Sperm Analysis results

got print out of last june and this one:

June 2007 not on tegretol cr May 2008 - on tegretol cr 200mg 2x bd
vol - 5.1ml Vol - 1.9ml ( cos someone bloody well walked in on him, harldy surprising!!)
liquefaction 0 Liquifation 0
viscosity 1 visc 1
Agglutination 0 agg 0

concentration - 53 million/ml conc - 30.7 mill/ml
total number 270.3 million total 58.3 million
Morph 9.5% morph 6.5%
round cells 0/3 milliom/ml round cells 0

Progressive motility 44.7% prog mot - 38.9% ( just under the "normal" 40%?)
Motility - non motile 42.6% non mot 52.9%
non progressive 12.7% non prog 8.1%
poor progressive 4.6% poor prog 5%
good progressive 40.1% good prog 33.9%

Whaddya think of that then? He had a restest as he was diagnosed with Epilepsy and the meds he needs to take are wel known to cause male infertility in some.

GP said was all within normal boundaries ( apart from the prog motility which is juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust under)

So, if the problem isn't him then it's still me *sigh* and so far everything is coming back as normal for me. I wonder if maybe I should ask for a post coital test? do they even do those anymore these days?

OK the levels that are considered normal on this sheet in front of me are:

progressive motility >40%
morphology >5%

But just ofund this on an IVF clinic's website..

Semen Analysis: There are minimum criteria for normal sperm parameters to stand a good chance to achieve a pregnancy naturally or through simple procedures e.g. OI, TSI or IUI. A normal assessment according to the WHO:

• Sperm motility - more than 50% moving

• Sperm morphology - more than 30% of normal shape

?????????????????
are they being overly cautious there, or are the people that did my husbands test plain wrong??

I posted my DH's semen analysis results a few weeks ago and some of the responses I got were quite reassuring - Semen Analysis Results

The only concern I had with his was the morphology thing - his was only 6%, which sounds really low to me, and like you, the research I did suggested the average should be about 30%.

But the more I researched, the more I found that the number's really differ - some say that as long as it is over 6%, then it is fine, whereas others said it should be over 15%.

I think as long as the sperm count is decent, there are still enough 'normal' looking sperm to potentially fertilize an egg.

However, I'm trying not to worry about it because the doctors seem to think everything was fine with his results, so I feel I should trust them as opposed to working myself up with self-diagnosis on Google!!

Sorry, I don't really know what the levels and percentages for each thing should be. When my OH had his SA done, the results came back as normal, so he had another one done on Tuesday. We get the results on 9th June. Eeeek. Like you, I've had the tests done too, and nothing is wrong. It's very frustrating, but we'll get there.

Good luck

xx
