Question

Help with blood results

Hi all, I just got my blood results today. The letter says my blood count is normal as are my hormone tests and my thyroid function test. What does this mean and what are they actually testing?? My periods are quite irregular (4-6 weeks). If my hormone count is normal then does this mean my body is functioning normally and I am ovulating or is this another thing entirely??!!?? I thought previously that irregular periods were often due to polycystic ovaries. Again I am not sure what normal means reguarding this either. Does normal mean I don't have it or do I need to have more tests?? Very confused!!! Thought the letter would be far more informative.

can you ask your GP to explain them further? Often if you have questions they should sit down and explain things with you. I'd say (only guessing) that your hormone levels are ok, and you have no overly active thyroid, which both things can cause your body to play up, and not ovulate at times. Did you have a CD21 blood test to check LH levels? or was it just a pre screening blood test? - if it was pre screening I'd say they were checking the everyday normal things. STD, Blood sugar levels, and so forth.

Good luck sweeetie

It was just a routine test I think. My cycle is so erratic and long at times that I am not sure they would know when to do a blood test to check LH levels. Going for an ultrasound on Tuesday though so hopefully I will get to know a bit more then. DH also did a sperm test last week so hopefully that comes back ok. Just a bit depressing.

Thanks for the reply. DH and I have been trying for 9 months now. We were originally supposed to go for tests in December but I had a miscarriage at the end of November so my gynae suggested I wait a little bit longer as I obviously ovulate at least sometimes. It has been at thae back of my mind that I might have PCOS too, hopefully they might be able to check for that soon. Did you have any symptoms apart from the eratic periods? Questions, questions!!!!!!! I seem to be able to go on and on these days!! Sending you some baby dust Nicx
