Back from follicle check up and have a question!

Today it's CD12 for me and my doc told me to see him to check on the follicles. I had 6 follicles in total, and I dont really remember their sizes, but he said that they are perfect.

Anyway, he told me that I should take cortisone pills in replacement for baby aspirin as I have allergies to it and also prescribed for me progesterone pills to avoid any kind of miscarriage if conception occurs. Also he told me something I need to ask everyone about: He said that I needed to do some blood work and from it he will see if my body is strong enough to tolerate the pain of having my "follicles" burst (I dont know what he meant by that) but he said that I had some burst and that if I do the rest my chances of conception increase. I didn't go into details because he is expert, and I trust him.. but I read in my paper that he wrote "HCG 5,000 OR 10,000" shots; they are injections.

I am very happy with the fact that my doctor is looking after me with care and commitment to help me conceive a healthy bean. Ahh for those who dont know.. I took clomid this cycle from CD3-7 - 100mg

I am confused about the bursting thing. What is really meant by that?

Hi Susan,

Your Doctor, I think, is referring to a trigger shot to actually rupture the follicles. Clomid alone does not guarantee ovulation. In some women they will ovulate with just Clomid, but others have to take a trigger shot along with the Clomid to gurantee that they ovulate. I was on Clomid 100mg on days 2 to 6 last November. I went for a scan mid-cycle to see if I had developing follicles - I had 4 on day 12 and was told to take a trigger injection the following day and then BD for 2 days. I fell pregnant that cycle - second cycle on Clomid. Unfortunately though I miscarried at 10 weeks.

I am sorry for your loss.
I guess the 6 follicles the doc saw are great, arent they? I will get a call today and see if I will get the shots.

Thank you

HI Susan,

6 follicles is a good number but only if they are of a good size. Normally a follicle needs to be 17mm or over to be mature. Also there is always only ever one dominant follicle per cycle (except in the case of fraternal twins) so it doesn't matter what size the remaining follicles are as long as one is over 17mm.

Good luck to you.
