IVF Limitations

Good Day to all you lovely people! I am Tulip & excited to be in this forum.

Does anyone know of any place/clinics/hospitals that specialises in IVF and where there's no barrier with bmi limit.

What I would like to know is can ivf be carried out for a person btn bmi 35-39.

Pls help & advise.

Cheers
Tulip

I am pretty sure that it can often be carried out ( as I know a number of people that have had it done) but often at a private clinic (not one for free - depending on where you live). The thing that I have been told though is that sometimes it is hard to collect the eggs with too much to get through and that their is a higher miscarriage rate with higher bmi.

Best wishes either way.

I am a bigger girl, and although they did suggest some weight loss at the first consult, nothing else was said, as I was blessed with a BFP first time. So I guess it will depend on the clinic and their own policies

Lots of luck hun.

Hey Tulip

Just wanted to say good luck with the IVF.
We are in the UK and i had a BMI of 39 but i had to get down to 29 for my IVF. They encouraged me to read up on stuff and it showed a higher risk of complications/miscarriage etc if your BMI is higher - not to mention the fact you will gain weight with the pregnancy.
As much as i wanted the IVF then and there - having lost weight i feel so much better and happier knowing i stand a better chance with our cycle. The last thing i would want to do is spend money for a cycle and then have complications because i didn't lose a few pounds.
Good luck with your journey - i hope NeyNey's success brings you your own! x

I went through Sydney IVF, Dr Mark Livingstone. He is just an angel and the kindest FS I've ever known. He has called me quite a few times since being let out of hospital just to see how I'm feeling. My Dr has a policy to only transfer 1 embryo at a time. They are a little more expensive than other clinics, but I would definitely use them again....Everyone was just so lovely and things went quite smoothly and quickly...

Thank You!

Sorry to trouble you but can I ask you one more question please...Do you really think this clinic is not strict about bmi limit. I have a bmi of 38. I have PCOS and trying very hard with diet & excerise to lose weight. I get to lose about 2-3 kilos, then its back again. I've really battled with weight issues half of my life!

Please advise and thanks for sending me the website add.. I will contact the clinic.

Take care and do keep me updated on your progress.

Cheers
Tulip

Hi Tulip, as far as I know they don't have a BMI limit, as I myself am a larger girl, and it was never double questioned with me. At my first appt, Dr Livingstone suggested I try to up my exercise and lose a little before the cycle commenced, (I did manage a few kilos but not many) but it never came up again. I would speak to them, see what they say....I can only go on my personal experience

Best of luck hun.

Hi Ney

I contacted the clinic, the lady who spoke to me advise she doesn't think weight is an issue but probably depends on the Dr we meet. I have contacted Dr Livingstone's office but looks like he's on holidays until Mid Jan'10. Fingers crossed! One Day I will share my success story with you too

Thank you and God Bless...

Tulip

Lots of luck hun. I can't praise my Dr enough, he's Scottish and has the best accent!! He comes and talks to you before the procedures and makes you feel safe and answers all ur questions no matter how dumb they sound. He really was amazing...I'd happily go back, and we will be as we have two bubs frozen for our next rounds.
