What's 'normal' motility and how can you improve it?

Just a quick question - at our appt yesterday we had DH's SA results: 276 million but 15% motility. Consultant said this is a very high count but just about normal motility and he would have liked this to be higher.

Is 15% particularly bad and do you have any tips on how he might improve this? Consultant mentioned taking Zinc and Selenium and recommended Wellman tablets?

We'd be really grateful for any advice as with my endo we need all the help we can get.

Thanks.

x

My hubbys was 14% ands you need at least 40% I think, so yes it is low. I think you can improve it by vitamins. A lot of the partners of girls on this site are taking MACA selenium, Zinc or 'well-man' an all rounder. It can be improved, hopefully other ladies will be able to tell you more than I can but he has a good count (my hubbys is 5million ) so thats a good start at least!!

Wow that count is incredible. I would have thought that 15% would be fine with a count like that. I think it's meant to be 50% motility and minimum 20 million count. I'm crap at maths, but I reckon your dh must beat that if you work out 15% of 276m.

Thanks everyone - we are really pleased with such a high count but a bit confused about the motility as last time it came back as 80% motility and they said it couldn't be right because that was way too high. Now we are down to 15% - goodness knows what's going on but we will try those vitamins and see how we get on.

Looks like we are going to have to go for IVF anyway, but will be trying IUI in January so fingers crossed they get swimming well by then!

xx

hey hun

We had 1 million total count, 14% morphology and 25% motility. Having taken Wellmans, 1000mg of effervescent vit C and 2 x Maca tablets every day - DH now has 16 million count, 35% morphology and 60% motility.

Clinic said 50% motility is 'normal'... i figure you have to try everything as it could help. It takes 70-90 days for to mature so it would take this long to reflect any changes. Oh and DH stopped ALL hot baths so this could have helped too??

Thanks Rachelle - that's an incredible improvement! Really gives me hope - I'm off to the health shop tomorrow to stack up on vits, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that we have results like yours with the motility.
