Do vitamins improve sperm count?

My doctor and FS don't believe that they do but I'm sure I've read of lots of stories on here where it has shown an improvement. My husband is currently taking wellman tablets, zinc and macca. He's now bought the wellman conception tablets so I'm really hopeful that this will show signs of improvement. Do you think that vits work? Any success stories?

Zinc is known to be good for sperm quality - I've not used Macca but I've heard it has some good benefits.

We found out my hubby had a low sperm count because his testosterone level was too high. If it's too high, men stop producing sperm. He got off the med that caused the high level, but after 2 months his count hadn't bounced back as high as the Dr wanted so, he,yes my hubby, is currently taking Clomid to help with his count,,,he saw a urologist who prescribed it...my OB/GYN prescribed it for me also....so we are BOTH on Clomid....best wishes in getting the count up!

I think for most men it cannot hurt to supplement and if he is deficient in an area it could help sperm ie zinc. Tho it really depends on what is the cause of the low count - it may not be vit/min related....

We found that general multi vits as well as Vit C and Zinc really helped DF
He also took Vit A, E and selinium at the same time.

Hey, we take Wellman, 1000mg of vit c and maca.
DH's account has doubled with every SA - first test was 1 million total and last count was at 16 million total. He has stopped having hot baths but i think the vits and general lifestyle changes have all helped. It all depends on the reason for the low sperm count in the first place x

Thanks girls. I think it's a lifestyle problem that has caused my husband's count to be lower than normal. He smokes and drinks. On a normal weekend, he would probably have 5 or 6 beers on a Friday, Saturday and sometimes Sunday. He also smokes. Well smoked I should say. I'm not totally blameless though. I smoke and drink as well but I'm also out a lot so can definitely drink more than I should. So starting from this week, we've both cut down. No alcohol during the week, he had 2 beers last night, I had only 1 glass of wine. He's stopped smoking and I'm working on it. With him not smoking, I have to stop as well. I just find it harder because my best friend smokes so that's my downfall. But I'm really committed now. I have 2 cigarettes left and then that's it. And I actually think I might succeed this time as I feel bad that my husband has stopped and I haven't. So fingers crossed that in a few months time, we'll get our first BFP after my miscarriage a year ago x

Hi susan, we've been ttc for 18 months after mc in july 08, we got preg last month but it turned out to be a chemical My OH also drinks alot and smokes, he drinks about 12 + cans a week, he has cut down alot since we got together. he was drinking 12+ cans a day for a long time before we met but we got preg first time we had unprotected sex, but it ended in mc at 9 weeks, and we didnt get 1 single BFP for 18 months afterwards up until last month, he's now been taking serlium with zinc for the past 2 months, thats really the only thing thats changed. He had a really good count but not very good mobility/progression before he started the vits. what ive read online vitamins seem to help alot with sperm problems.. i'm convinced thats what helped us get our BFP last month even tho it was a chemical. It seems to me that my OH drinks and problerly smokes alot more than ur's and he has a good count :S maybe its somthing else thats making it low? or maybe it just depends on the person, im not sure.

Hi Susan,
My FS believes that vitamins can help. They actually have a 'recipe' on their website...go to soft-infertility.com and under downloads, look for Male Factor Infertility and the recipe is in there.
My DH smokes as well and has a very unbalanced diet...but he always forgets to take his vitamins
