Waiting list for IVF on the NHS

Could anyone tell me how long I will have to wait for IVF? I have my first consultant appointment in Jan and was hoping that it will not be too long to wait before starting treatment on the NHS.

Hi hun
It tends to depend on your PCT and on your diagnosis.

I am under West Herts and have unexplained infertility - so they wouldn't put me on a waiting list till I had been TTC for three years. But we hit three years in June this year and had one cycle straight away in June/July and are now on our second - and if this doesn't work have our final (as West herts offers three goes) in Feb - so they rush you through pretty quickly.

West herts has been fab - really hope your PCT is as good.

Fingers crossed for you hun,

Bx x x

Hey hun - we had our first FS appt last November and they asked us to return 3 months later after we had done all our tests - blood, HSG, SA etc. Then when we went to that appt this Feb we were put on the waiting list. They said 12 months but in Sept we got told our funding had come through and we will be starting in the new year.

In the UK there is a fertility forum for various clinics and if you got in touch with that they might be able to tell you what the wait was like?x

Hi hun
west herts comes under east of England - and I was told 3 fresh cycles and 3 frozen to make up the six (and if you are like me and don't ever get any to freeze then that leaves only three). You might want to clarify with your Dr cos you dont want to go in with false hope. OR if you find it is six fresh then let me know - as I am working on the basis of three goes and out!

We are lucky - three goes is FAB!
I dont get to freeze cos I just cant get enough embies - only three each time - but as the saying goes - we only need one - thats my new mantra!!!!

Crossing everything you definitely dont need the NHS go hun and the private works first time.

Bx x x

Thanks ladies, I am in East Lancashire, so will have to contact them to see what they say. I hope that my trust funds 3-6 too, it seems so unfair that it should be a postcode lottery!!!
