I believe IUI is intrauterine insemination which is where you are monitored and at the time of ovulation they inseminate you with your partners sperm, I believe it is injected up close to where the egg is released.

I haven't had this done so I am not 100% but pretty sure it is something along those lines.

IVF is where you are on FSH injections to produce a large amount of follicles, once they are at the right size you go into theatre for egg collection and then they fertilize them with your husbands sperm. This is done either naturally or they may have to micro inject the sperm into each egg. Then either day 2-3 or maybe even day 5 after egg collection the fertilized eggs (embryo's) are put back inside you into your uterus and then you wait 2wks to see if it has taken.

I think IUI would be less invasive and probably alot cheaper.

Good luck..

Bek74 is right - I had IUI almost 2 wks ago - just like having a PAP! my insurance covered all the testing and medication and dr appt to get the IUI - i paid for the donor - dh doesn't have any swimmers! $400 for the donor - washed for iui - so if your dh has swimmers you'd pay for the extraction unless he does it himself and the washing - they have to do for IUI.

IVF runs about $10,000 per the dr. we talked to! IUI was better but less % to conceive - most people try IUI first

what do you mean by washing? So you only ended up paying 400$ instead of 10000$ for the IUI?
Can you do IUI if your tubes are blocked?
Did you have any issues to make you need the IUI?

IUI can't be used if your tubes are blocked, you will have to have IVF.

Washing means that when your husband ejactulates it isn't just sperm, it has dead skin and heaps of other bits mixed together, so they wash it and seperate it so they are only injecting the sperm and not everything else.
