Hi~
My OH had a vasectomy after having 2 kids with his ex. The vasectomy was many years ago - he later underwent 2 surgeries to have it reversed. The second surgery was "successful" but he has super low count (~1.8 million) and very low motility (~1%) really bad, huh.
I've been feeling like I don't want to put myself through IVF. (All you ladies who are taking this route are amazing!) My OH is open to using a donor (I think it helps him that he has biological children already) so we found a known donor, signed contracts to avoid legal issues, inspected STD test results, and went ahead with artificial insemination (at home) using the donor's sperm.
This month was our first try with the assistance of the donor and I'm hopeful that I'll conceive soon. I'm 27 - so I feel like we have plenty of time to try IVF later if my feelings change or I have trouble conceiving using a donor. That played a role in our decision. Also we want a big family so I'm trying to keep my costs down.
These are tough decisions though - and you and your OH have to be on the same page. If you want to talk more one-on-one send me a personal message. Our situations are quite similar.
There is always hope! We live in a world today where there is so much help available for people who can't conceive in traditional ways. I'm grateful for that.
