Egg quality?

Hi, we have been ttc for 18 months and during that time I turned 40.

I've had many tests, including a lap and dye, and the results are that I am ov, my tubes are clear and uterus looks normal and FS saw abot 16 antral follicles. An AMH test was 14.7 which was just below the satisfactory level, which doc said he expected for my age.

My OH's sp test was bad the first time, but the second time was good except for slightly lower morphology and he has about 50% sp antibodies, which doc said may have an affect but probably not. In fact said may not know until we start IVF.

So it seems to me it is likely to be my egg quality and my age which is the problem because our timing has been generally very good and I've also used pre-seed and Zetica (a new brand).

Thanks for reading and I would welcome any comments. IVF is the next steop for us, so I am hoping they may find some good eggs that way. G. xxx

I have to say 16 antreal follicles is fantastic for age 40 not just satisfactory!!! I am 33 and i have only 9 early in my cycle but they see 14 when i get to say day 21. So i average about 12 now that is slightly low for my age. I cant beleive a doctor would say that yours is just satisfactory for age 40!!!

Hi Cedarwod and Chocci, thanks for looking up my post from November. The doc was saying my AMH test was satisfactory but did not say anything about the antral follicles just that it meant we had a chance and I should respond "reasonably well" to fertility drugs. I guess they just don't want to get hopes up. We had one last try this month but am feeling crampy as I always do and no sore bbs so guess AF is here soon. I am due to start my IVF down-reg drugs in February. Good luck with your journeys.
