taking clomid longer than ur suppose to???

Hi girls ive been trying to conceive for 5 years and i was given clomid for 6 cycles which i finished taking the 6th cycle in july.i did manage to get pregnant twice but it ended up being chemicals.

my question is the doctor told me that i was only allowed 6 months of clomid however they made a mistake on the prescrition and gave me 9 months worth so im thinking of giving it a go one last time do u think this could be dangerous taken without doctors permission?

has enyone taken clomid more thatn 6 cycles if so was it sucssessfull?
ive heard that if it doesent work for the first 3 cycles then it wont work if taken longer, but i did fall pregnant twice.

im just so confused i would realy like to give it one last shot.

hope someone could give me advice thanks.xx

Hi...i cant give you any advise really as im only on my 1st cycle of clomid 50mg.....ive been given only 3 mths worth & i see my fs at end of jan.....i did ask her when i saw her in sept what would be the next step if clomid fails....she said prob iui but it isnt offered at my hospital...iwould have to go private...only good thing there is no waiting list but obviously we would have to pay £800+ she didnt even mention another 3 mths of clomid...

when did u fall preg twice? was it after the 1st 3 mths? if so then maybe give the other 3 mths of clomid a try as they do say u have less chance of falling preg after 3 but it may have worked 4 u!! good luck in what ever you decide to do...i would def speak to ur fs tho, they need to be kept inform on any desicions you make xx

i got pregnant on the 3rd and 5th cycle.i had an appoitment in oct to see what the next step would be but they said i should move straight to IVF as i have unexplained infertility. i wanted to give clomid one last shot before IVF.

im just so confused as to what i should do.

seeing as one of the pregnancies u had was on the 5th cycle i would say try the other 3 mths of clomid...but thats only my opinion....i would go with whatever your fs recommends.....

i too have polycysts on my only ovary...but im ovulating ok still but they have still put me on clomid. My doc doesnt seem to think i have the syndrome part but i beg to differ.....my skin is awful so spotty especially around the time i ovulate & i have excess hair in awful places....sorry tmi lol...but around my nipples & below my belly button, a few on my chest too.....i have to pluck them every other day as they are so black & thick. im not overweight. Is ur husband taking anything 4 the low sperm morphology? can anything be taken? my dh has been taking fertile aid 4 men for the low count & motility he had...its really improved it. Is iui not an option then for you b4 ivf? x

thank you hun for taking your time to reply.

i too have awfull skin i have moderate acne in my back and some on my chest and excess hair in my nipples and in my belly and other places to lol,im 1 stone overweight.

me and my partner are taking sanatogen father and mother to be however he stopped taking it last month as he said its messing up with his bowel movements lol so i need to get him on something else(eny suggestions?)

i could go for iui privatly coz if i opt for iui on the nhs i will not be entitled to ivf however the FS said IVF would be ideal.

I took it for 5 cycles and was able to get pregnant. My fertility specialist said it is fine to continue (although I will be monitored for cysts, etc.) He said the main reason they stop at 6 cycles is because it hasn't been working and they are anxious to move on to a more intensive treatment. We know it works for me. He didn't suggest that I take it forever, but a few cycles past 6 is fine. Why are they having you skip right to IVF? I'm surprised they aren't attempting IUI first.

Hello,
I have just had my 7th cycle of Clomid, and went back to the FS on Monday, who has given me another 2 cycles so I will have 9 cycles altogether but under FS supervision! I also have my first IVF appt in January.
In my 6 complete cycles so far we never got a bfp, and have been told it is highly unlikely we will get one on clomid due to dh only having 10% sperm motility (they like to see at least 50%), but I think the FS just wants to fill the gap between now and IVF if i'm honest!

well i spoke to them about iui on the nhs and they said i could go for that but then i would not be entiltled to ivf on the nhs as its 3 attemps at iui and if it failed i could not get ivf unless i went private so i said i would prefer to go for ivf as the sucssess rates are higher and speacialy with dh low sperm morphology (7%)

im confused as to what i should do i was even thinking of doing iui private and then if it failed i would always have my free go at ivf on the nhs.

i feel like there is never gonna be an end to this journey.

I never heard then say you cant have IVF if you do IUI..
What i read is that you can have up to some many goes at IUI and then so many goes at IVF depending on where you live on the NHS

I know my PCT do up to 6 cycles of IUI (as its so much cheaper) and up to 3 goes of IVF if you pay for any private this is deducted off the goes the NHS will give u.

I would maybe ring your PCT and find out the entitlement you get with NHS as i am sure IUI is normally offerered first before IVF as its so much cheaper then going straight to IVF..

Might be worth ringing your local PCT or searching on line and finding out..
I have been given 3 months of clomid if that doesnt work we being referrred to F.S who i assume wud proberley mention IUI first..
