Lttc, 3 miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy

Hi All
I'm new to this and have posted a couple of posts but have been advised to try here for help and support. I'm no spring chicken at 37 and my partner is 45, we have a beautiful 2 and a half year old and would dearly love a wee brother or sister for her. We have used no contraception since having her and have been actively trying for another for about 18 months. In the past year I've had 3 miscarriages and then a suspected ectopic pregnancy which took over a month to resolve. It's been heartbreaking. I was just wondering if anyone else out there has had a similar experience, any words of wisdom would be so much appreciated. Nearly all my close friends are pregnant or have just had at the moment which is tough. I'm so pleased for them all but I feel like bursting into tears when I hear them excitedly making all their new baby plans and comparing bumps although I would never say anything to them.
Anyway, good luck to everyone else out there whether trying or expecting.

Hi Hun!

I am sure you will find support here. I know its really hard to have people around talking about their pregnancies. I am also surrounded by friends who are pregnant and even though I am happy for them, it hurts at the same time.

I hope you get your BFP soon and don't have to stay here for long.

Hi hun im 37 and OH is 41. we have been TTC number 3 for 2 years and have had 4 miscarriages and am just going through a hetoroptic pregnancy (one baby in uterus and one in ovary) both miscarrying as we speak. I have had a methotrexate shot and am just starting the process.

I have been under a specialist for 3 months who has pumped me full of stimulatory drugs which the hospital feel has resulted in this extra egg implanting in my ovary. We were led to believe this was the man to help when he was a fertility specialist NOT a recurrent miscarriage specialist.

We have now had the urgent referral and am awaiting the dates.

I know what you mean we take it for granted that becuase we have had one child (I have two Ben is 16 and laura is 8) that we will get pregnant easy and I can get pregnant easy I just cant hold onto it.

Do you use anything like OPK, Clear blue Monitor, or any vitamins etc?

Thanks for your kind words Bigfoot1980 and fluffyblue. I'm not trying anything at the moment other than the conception vitamin supplements. I've mentioned it in passing a couple of times to my gp and he didn't seem in the slightest bit concerned. Stupidly I didn't inform the doctor of my first 2 miscarriages as they both happened at 6 weeks, I now know what a mistake this was as I can't get a referal unless I have 3 documented mc's.
Your situation sounds horrific fluffyblue, I've never heard of that before but my heart goes out to you. I hope the methotrexate doesn't give you any nasty side effects and wish you all the best of luck with it all.
Bigfoot 1980 best of luck to you as well, 3 years is a long time, has your gp recommended any investigations at all, I hope you don't have to wait too much longer.

Hi, I am Tina. I am 34, with two children. I have been TTC since my daughter was 1 years old (she is almost 5 now). I have had three miscarriages in that time, but unable to get pregnant without assitance, and in the last year..nothing. We were finally referred to a FS and it turns out DH only has 3% normal sperm. No one bothered to check him since we had two children previously together. Turns out the abnormal sperm causes infertility and miscarriage so all the pieces fit. We are going back again on Dec. 4 and DH has agreed to IUI if they suggest it. Hope you get some answers soon hon.

You see this is what racks me off about the NHS - no one has even bothered to ask about OH sperm as they "presume" we have a child together its normal. I am gonna really push for this to be done - but do you reckon that becuase we have gotton pregnant 5 times in 2 years that it could be his sperm?

Good luck with the FS next month. It's madness not to check the males sperm first of all, it's far easier than all the horrible invasive tests us women have to have. I've never heard of the sperm causing miscarriage before, it's amazing what you find out by chatting to people on this website. All the best.

You see this is what racks me off about the NHS - no one has even bothered to ask about OH sperm as they "presume" we have a child together its normal. I am gonna really push for this to be done - but do you reckon that becuase we have gotton pregnant 5 times in 2 years that it could be his sperm?

Yes, I would think that it could be DH's sperm. It is a simple and non-evasive test. Don't forget, I have been pregnant five times too, possibly more, since I have had tests that were positive and then I got my AF anyways on time.

I feel for all of you out there. I have been unable to get pregnant and we have been trying for 2 1/2 years. I can't imagine having multiple miscarriages, my heart breaks for you.

I believe the reason that OH sperm could be cause of recurrent miscarriages is because if an abnormal sperm implants your body will recognize a problem with the fetus and miscarry.
