Frozen ET

Heya ladies - was posting for some advice / experience

i've just completed our first icsi cycle, BFN unfortunately.

we have two blastos on ice and we now need to self fund as our pct only funds the first. i've been reading up on FET's, success rates, waiting times, etc, but , as usual, have ended up more confused! any help on the following questions really would be gratefully received!

1) what's the optimimum time to try again?
2) does anyone know how many blasto's survive the thawing process? (rough guide?)
3) do i have to inject again (i'm not stimming as we're gonna use the ones on ice)? (or what do you normally do to prepare the body medically for FET)
4) are success rates for frosties lower than with fresh?

I'm ringing the clinic tomorrow to arrange our follow up appt, but am hoping someone might be able to help me sooner as i'm not sure how quick they can see me ( i'll be having the treatment at the same clinic as i had the fresh ET)

I am not much help as I am only on first cycle of IVF. Sorry you got a BFN

My clinic advises a month off from treatment before doing FET. I don't think you take meds for FET, I am really not sure hun.
Hopefully someone here will know more and be able to help you

Hi MrsF, sorry to hear your first fresh didn't give you a happy result. As for FET, I am not sure since I am also on my first ICSI.

There are a few ladies on here who have gone through FET, I hope they are able to assist you in answering your questions. Good luck with everything this cycle, I hope it is a success

sorry to hear about your BFN. I am in a similar position - I have had a BFN from IVF in Sep. I have my protocol for FET, ny FS said it will be on a spontaneous cycle - so no drugs (well progesterone after ET). He said that I will be scanned on day 8 .... and they wait until you ovulate then arrange for the ET. The success rates at my clinic are about 33% fresh and about 20% frozen. The shortest time you need to leave it is one month with a natural period.

My clinic said that there is a 60% chance that embryos will survive the thawing process and they also told me the success rate was lower than with fresh.

thankyou for your answers ladies, i thought frozen was less successful than fresh

got my appointment in december and hopefully have ET in Jan. Really getting down about it now. I did find out that my pct funds single ET's until all of my reserves have have gone (2 in my case), which is good, but a single frozen ET doesn't sound like it's gonna work - thinking of paying and having both put back in - but that's if they bloody survive the thaw.

feeling really crappy about the whole situation now. Just tempted to cut my losses, pay for a whole new fresh cycle cos i really dont think i can cope with anymore let downs. i know a fresh one might not work either, but if we do pay for the 2 frozen blastos for ET, and that doenst work, we've just lost 2,500 (ish).

LTTTC sucks

Mrs F, I can understand how you feel. I had a BFN and now have 4 frosties. Although I was quite looking forward to getting the FET without all the injections and allowing my body to work with a helping hand.

Just because you're fresh one didn't take, doesn't mean the frosties won't.

My story is a little different but highlights my point I think. I had an IVF cycle in May this year (after 4 years ttc) which resulted in a BFN. Then, to my complete surprise, I got pregnant naturally the following month. So the carefully, medically controlled treatment of a deliberately selected egg with prepared, washed sperm didn't work, whereas a chance meeting of a different egg and sperm did!!

Rach, you're story is amazing! You must've been so shocked and over the moon to finally get your bfp! and naturally too!!!! You've lifted my spirits, thankyou

is there any evidence to suggest that we might be more fertile after an ivf cycle?? If you dont mind me asking, what was your 'fertility issue' (horrible way to put it, i know, but i cant think of a different way of putting it!) we;ve just entered our 5th year (last month) and i ovulate 2/3 times a year, and my DH's sperm is below 'normal'. i ovulated on clomid, but DH's sperm was too pants to do owt, and i responded well to the stimms.

one more question! do i take CD1 of this cycle after the first time i started bleeding? (i only ask cos my first day was very light, as was the second, the third was a bit heavier, but not as heavy as my regular cycles - also, i'm still bleeding now, which i never bleed for this long)

MrsF, yes the success rate is lower on FET, and yes alot of Blasto's don't survive the thaw, but ya know what hun??
Alot DO survive the thaw, and alot of women DO conceive on FET, so don't give up hope.
Try to look at things with the whole " The glass is half full" attitude and not the " glass is half empty"

I would thaw out both Blasto's, both may survive the thaw or only one might. If both do then you can pay to have both tranfered but if only one does then your not out of pocket.
