BMI

Does your clinic have a BMI limit? My clinic will not do IVF for anyone with 30 or over. I am 13 lbs away from a 29. I am SO thankful DH and I got healthy starting in Feb. The nurse that did my military referral did not even tell me of this. I found out at orientation. I couldnt imagine showing up at 255 and finding out I had to lose 60 lbs!

Yep, it was 30 for our clinic too but thats for any treatment inc clomid. It has been proved to be more effective if your BMI is under 30!

Wow even for clomid!? You know when I asked my regular gyno about losing weight he said dont worry about it that when i got pregnant the baby would absorb it all. When I have my annual next month I will definitely mention to him the BMI requirement so that none of his other patients are surprised.

My first clinic never mentioned anything about weight, my second only just gave us a flyer (along with other ivf and IF info) about BMI and ttc.
There was no upper limit, and thank goodness since I don't buy that info very much - my brother and SIL got pregnant with my nephew after only a month or two (I know it wasn't longer because she had a 2nd trimester m/c a few months before) and they are both extremely obese (at least in the 400 lb range).

Hi
I am going for private Ivf and the deal is
bmi 30 or less accepted
bmi 30-35 commit to a 5% weight loss
bmi over 35 you will need to join a weight loss and exercise programme. They say the higher your bmi the greater risk of m/c .

Currently my bmi is around 35 so I am aiming to lose some weight before ivf starts as I know it will help. Also it makes it harder if u do clomid first as that put on weight half a stone for me. Good luck guys x

Hi Danalou! I am also in Texas and DH is in the military. Are you going to the AF base in San Antonio? That is where we will go. They told me a bmi of 30 is the cut off. I'm at 23.4. BUT, I have pcos and need to lose 15lbs (for good health and eggs). Good luck!

Hi, I'm in the UK and my local NHS request a BMI of below 30 as one of the referral criterias for IUI/IVF, however we recieved our first appointment with our chosen IUI clinic today and they state they will only provide treatment if both couples BMI is below 35! So quite a difference. Luckily I have a BMI of 26 but I was shocked to learn the differences in requirements.
