Very Low Progesterone

Have just received my cd 21 results and basically I have very low progesterone (2.7) which is leading to irregular periods, so after my HSG after my next AF the doctor wants to put me on progesterone from day 16-22 for the next 6 monthes to regulate my cycle. Anyone with experience please.....

Hi Jasmine, I haven't experienced what you have, however i was wondering if you actually think you ov'd on cd14 as if you didn't then this result will be unrealistic. As you said you had irregular periods i wasn't sure if you meant your cycles were longer than usual.

Progesterone tests are suppose to be carried out 7 days after you think you ov'd. They only call then cd21 as this is what it would be for a 'normal' womans cycle.

I ov'd on cd17 so had to have my progesterone done on cd24.

Just a thought.

I also had very low progesterone when I took my blood tests (the lowest was under 1), so I now take a Prometrium suppository a few days after ovulation until I get a negative pg blood test. Once I stop taking it, my period arrives within a day or 2. It's a great way to regulate my cycle, as they were once over 70 days long (the Clomid obviously helped too). If I get a positive test, I am supposed to continue the progesterone through the 1st trimester. Good luck! xx

Hi there,

This one really annoys me because not everyone has a perfect 28 day cycle. Could you ask if you can the test repeated a little further on in your cycle. I had alsorts of results as we were testing to early. Try not to worry too much

Good luck! xxxx

I was told my test was ok (but never given a number) then i joined BnB and now i want to know. I picked up the file last time and read something like 1.4nmol/L does this sound fine? Or was i looking at the day 3 results.... I'll ask again next Wedn- i've got my appointment and a long list of Q. Maybe they tested on the wrong day for you hun.... Ask again....

Hiya my prog levels were low the first time I had a day 21 blood test. However, that was just because I hadn't o'd yet. I fov rom day 18 on so the day 21 test wasn't valid for me. xxxx

A more reliable test for low progesterone is the endometrial biopsy. I have low progesterone, and I take Prometrium. It is fine. I have no problems with it. Some bloating, but I get that anyways before AF.

Yeah, they kind of need to know when you O if they want a realistic progesterone number following O. They do it on CD21 sometimes to determine if you're O'ing... but hmm.

JASMAK - Prometrium and I don't get along AT ALL! The last time I took it, I was hungry, sleepy, and damn near homicidal. That last bit was the unfortunate part. I can handle hungry and sleepy! LOL Provera does well with me though! Weird, I know!
