Sex with Low sperm count.

Weve been trying ttc for over a year now, & my other half had a SA test done about 2 month ago & he has a low sperm count. I was just wondering if we've to BD less? Weve tried every other day & nothing happend but we mostly do it everyday.. we just go with the flow & do it whenever. i dont really want to make it into just certain times or days. but was wondering if having sex everyday was making it harder to get preg?

Any advice? x

Hey Jem

We also have a low count and are awaiting ICSI at the moment.

Our FS has advised us to every 2-3 days to ensure the max number of swimmers... abstaining any longer would decrease count as the majority would be dead. We were warned against having sex every day as with a low count they wouldn't be able to replenish and it was just be semen without sperm.

We were advised to monitor when we ovulated to ensure that we had sex around that time - before or on the day of ovulation according to the sticks and see what happens.

How long is your OH count?x

If your cycle is regular then i guess it makes it easy to time it such that he can abstain a few days before ovulation. However if you are unsure about when you ov then i guess every other day may work better than every day.

Good luckx

The doc said it wasnt good, but it'll still happen but might take a while. he didnt really say much apart from have showers instead of baths.
I dont really understand the results myself, so im not sure how good or bad they are.

Okay the count is good - 20 mil per ml is average. Volume should be at least 2 so that isn't far off - stage fright can affect that. Motility and morphology can both be improved by doing what the doc says - i bought Zita West's book it had a big section on fertility health. There are lots multi vits, exercise, weightloss, cutting down on alcohol and no hot baths and it all helps. Did the doc tell you that it takes 70-90 days for sperm to mature so it could take that long for things to improve?

When my DH stopped the hot baths and we got the shower fixed... motility and morphology doubled.

Hope it all gets better and better

Your count is actually normal, your problem seems to be instead motility and morphology. For this you would actually want to have sex more often since the fresher the sperm the healthier it is.
