| USA Ladies - Fertility Consult w/Gyn Vs. Fertility Specialist Hi ladies - I'm in New York. I have an appt with my Gyno in 2 weeks for a fertility consultation. She already did the cd 3 and 21 bloods which showed I had no progesterone. My question is will she be able to do other types of infertility testing there (like HSG, etc) or would it just be better to go straight to a Fertility Specialist? I have to call an FS to get DH's 's tested. | | | | Status: Offline

| Me personally, my gyn did my HSG and he prescribed me Clomid too. I did go see a FS but he told me that I looked great and my charts did too. He didn't do anything. My gyn is the one who has done all my diagnostic testing. He has also prescribed me prometrium (progesterone supplements) because of my age (37). As far as hubby SA, they said since we have gotten pregnant 3 times, there was no need in getting one done. But when we thought there may be a problem, my regular doctor referred us to a clinic that does SA, not a FS.
I hope that helps a little. Oh and I am in Virginia. Good luck!!!!!!!! | | | | Status: Offline

| I think this really varies depending on the specialties and facilities of the OBGYN. I'm in NYC, and my OBGYN referred me right out as soon as I was ready to start getting the tests. I don't think they do any infertility work there. But I know others who have had all of the tests done with the GYN and also clomid prescribed. I would say that if your OBGYN is able to go to those next steps, then you might as well stay with her for a while. THe only thing is with clomid, it's good to be with a doctor that can and will track you throughout the cycle using ultrasound, so if you're headed toward clomid, then you want to know if the GYN has the equipment, etc. to do that.
Good luck! | | | | Status: Offline

| Yeah, ^ similar to me, my new OBGYN specializes in infertility...but he's not a specialist by title. I was referred by my GP after discussing my plight. Maybe your GYN can offer a good referral to a very proactive OB?? | | | | Status: Offline

| Hi Chris
I think it depends on your gyno. Mine did a couple of rounds of rounds of clomid and lots of bloodwork then referred me to the specialist who ordered the HSG. | | | | Status: Offline

| Hi Chris!
I am in upstate NY and my OB/GYN gave me the blood tests, coordinated hubby's SA through another company, performed my HSG and prescribed Clomid/Prometrium. When I started my 4th round of Clomid, I was referred to the Fertility Specialist to discuss further options. Now that I am seeing the specialist, I am having follicle scans and HCG blood tests, which I didn't have before. | | | | Status: Offline

| I started out with a gyn. We did all the hormone testing, basic u/s, and SA. After that it was found dh had very low sperm count so he referred us to the fertility clinic. I think as long as it is just testing and your gyn is knowledgeable with IF then you can stay with him until you have to go to the RE. | | | | Status: Offline
