Antibodies

Hi there, my DH had a second sprm test and it was so much better than the first where there was very low morphology. This one had 20% morphology and 70% motility and a good count. BUT there was 50% sperm antibodies (mixed).

The test was ahead of our FS appointment next month. They said it shouldn't affect things, but I don't see how not and other reading suggests it is a worry. Does anyone else have this and does this mean we defo need help?

This is our 16th month of ttc, so I'm thinking if it isn't this, it must be my egg quality (I'm 40). Oh this is fun isn't it! Thanks for your help, Greta. x.

Hey Greta

I don't know much about sperm antibodies but the person i think could help you is Tanya - she is now in 1st tri and has a pregnancy journal. She fell pregnant after her 1st IVF cycle due to antibodies so might be able to shed some light on your questions?

Good luck x

Thanks for that, I'll get in touch. I can't find anything online where someone has conceived naturally with antibodies, but I guess it can happen. x

Hi Greta!

My OH has 68% Antisperm Antibodies (ASA) and we have had mixed results from our FS. The first doc we saw (was a registra not the consultant) said we would never get pg naturally and we should move onto ICSI. However as i have 2 sons from my first marriage we are unable to get funding and as we don't have a spare 5k laying around to pay for treatment - we were devastated.

However we saw the consultant last week and he was far more optamistic. He said that there was no point paying for IUI - if IUI works then we would also get pg naturally. He has treated couples that have a worse results than my OH and they have fallen naturally. I have got to have my cysts removed from my ovaries next month as I have PCOS and then he is hoping my cycle will be more regular and that we could fall naturally with time. He said my OH has to take his multi vits with zinc as they can def help things.

Obviously ASA really doesn't help things and not many people have heard of the condition either so it makes it hard to get info.

50% is still above what they like too see but it could be a lot worse hun, it doesn't mean you will def need help. I wish you lots of luck and hope you get a good result at your FS appt.

xxxx

Thanks for that it's very inspiring. But his ASA result was 50% igG and 20% IgA and apparently the IgA result is the most significant. So I guess that is more like 70%? Do you understand this? It seems like the doctors don't really know how much all this can hurt do they, although it does definitely have an affect.
What was your OH's result in terms of IgG et if you don't mind me asking? Good luck to you too. x
