Please tell me what you think

So in the course of this fun ltttc journey I keep learning new things - lucky us right.

My question is do you think that me being overweight is affecting my fertility even though I have regular cycles with proven ovulation?

I am trying to lose some weight and I want to be healthy regardless but I cannot find an answer to whether or not it is affecting me.

Thanks so much!

Hey hun

I'm not a medical professional but i do think that weight can affect fertility. I am overweight and have had all the tests done - i ovulate so it hasn't affected that but who knows, it could be affecting other things - not to mention the fact you are at a greater risk of miscarriage if you are overweight.

I have been told to lose 45lb so we can have IVF and i feel excited - half way there and i have so much more energy and just feel good about myself again.

If the fertility clinics won't treat people for IVF with a BMI of over 30 due to the risks and concerns then i think it's a good idea to embrace a it and get fit and healthy. All i could think of was how awful i would feel 2st heavier than i was if i got pregnant!

Good luck, hope you have a successful weightloss and spectacular as a result xx

Hi sandt2,

This may not be quite right but I think I was told that being overweight makes your body produce more oestrogen than it should and therefore makes conceiving harder than if you're not overweight.

Depite having PCOS I generally ovualte regularly but we've been trying for coming up to 2 years.

We've been put on the IUI waiting list but as Rachelle1975 said they won't generally treat you unless your BMI is under 30 (hence my ticker below!).

I guess it depends on how overweight you are as to whether it will affect your chances of .

Good luck though honey.

If you're unlucky enough to have PCOS there's a weight loss with PCOS thread on here. All the girls are really supportive and you'd be welcome to join us

Thank yo to both of you.

I appreciate the words of wisdom and support.

For the last almost 3 years I have been so consumed with everything else that I could do to ttc - charting every detail, opk, positions, meditation etc. It just never occured to me that my weight might be affecting it cause I thought that weight only affected ovulation, which I was doing. I wish I had spent the last 3 years losing weight. It does somewhat overwhelm me that the pressure is on me to lose weight - not an easy task. It is kind of like it is in my hands if I really want a baby or not! Ah!

If you don't mind me asking - what has worked for you to lose the weight - congratulations on that by the way!

Take care

My understanding is that estrogen loves fat cells. So if you're a bit overweight then the estrogen gorges on the fat cells instead of working on your follicles, possibly resulting in a slightly undermatured egg. Having said that, there are plenty of morbidly obese women that get pregnant without any help ... So who knows. I don't think drastic changes in your diet are recommended, but gradual changes and generally eating healthier and exercising more, can only be a good thing. Hey sand, I've been following weight watchers and hitting the gym yo shift it. I know a few people fatter than me with no conception problems so there is no rhyme or reason to it unfortunately! Having previously been confused for a pregnant person (oh the shame) im just keen to look pregnant and not fat

You are so funny.

I know what you mean already being overweight I keep thinking at least I would be overweight for a reason if I was pregnant.

I am thinking of starting up at weight watchers - I know I have done it before, and I have also started working out everyday.

Best wishes
