Having IUI without perscribed drugs

Really don't know if I am doing the right thing but last time I had IUI with the injections and trigger shot I had really bad stabbing pains when the

came. I was in agony for at least four days so much so my OH phoned NHS direct. When I spoke to FS and said can I have IUI without the drugs they said no as they need to know a timetable for ovulating etc. I was going to inject myslef when the

came but it was agony agian. I have now told the FS that I have taken the injections, but havent. Usually with the injections I have a scan on day 8. Has anyone had IUI without the injections and can advise when to have the scan?

I dont have any experience with this, though I have known people who do IUI with no meds, but this is only if they have perfect 28 day cycles and prog tests have confirmed O. Otherwise, nothing will happen. Are you private or NHS? On the NHS your cycles are normally limited to a certain number, so obviously you can't risk losing one.

would they not reduce the levels you're on?

I am on NHS, I have excatly 26-27 day cycle without fail. I have had my bloods taken and everything is fine apparently. My hospital just follow a procedure and will not shift from it. I think I probably have chucked the towel in to early and as I have told after the last IUI , only have to wait 18 weeks for IVF. I have now lost hope in IUI. Although I have heard quite a few women have been succesful on IUI and not just the first IUI.xx

Hi Tory

I haven't been for IUI so can't comment about the scan timings etc, but what I would say is that on both of my IVF cycles my AFs immediately following the treatment cycles were more painful than normal. Not sure if that's the stimming drugs or the progesterone though. My advice to you would be to follow your consultants advice - he/she is the qualified expert after all, and you don't want to waste any free treatment opportunities - IUI and IVF privately are not cheap, as I'm sure you already know.

I do tend to agree with you but now I have told a little fib to the FS its a bit difficult to get out of. I have asked for my scan on Monday which will be 13 days since the

left the building. I am just hoping my folicies will be an ok size. Fingers crossed for Monday

Hi tory

Have been thinking about you recently as I am just going through the first IUI. I can't comment on the painful periods (yet) but I would say that ever since my lap and dye an dall the meds and everything my periods have been ridiculously painful. stomach and bowel pain and all over back pain for at least 2-3 days. I've been taking codis which is codeine and aspirin, something I never needed to do before I embarked on all this treatment shite. I tend to agree with the other ladies about confessing to the FS but do also understand why you have done what have. You never, know, you make have produced all on your own!

Good to hear from you. I should have posted here before I decided not to take the meds, as I thought I was the only one getting really bad pains. Now I know it can be quite common I would probably taken the injections. I have got my scan on Monday at 12.15 I will let you know how I get on. Hi Girls

Had the scan have two follicies size 16.7 and 17 so really pleased that I produced without the meds. Having the IUI on Thursday so now hope they grow abit and I ovulate round then. Asked what will happen if not succesful this time as do not hold out much hope. The FS said I will be put on the waiting list for IVF and it can take about 18 weeks and we are allowed 3 attemps under our NHS.

Fantastic news ... fingers crossed you have some success this time.

You are so lucky to get 3 funded IVF cycles from your PCT, and your waiting time is nearly zero. You'd imagine that being offered 3 cycles would lengthen your wait time. We wait over 12 months here, and still only get 1 stingey offering. Ah well - that's the postcode lottery for you. If I thought moving temporarily would make a difference, I'd have done it already.
