Just looking to see when you ladies were deemed 'infertile' or when you started infertility treatment (i.e. Clomid, IUI, IVF). What if you're diagnosed with a form of infertility like PCOS for example before your 12 month TTC mark? Will they make you wait it out or start the treatment since they've figured out the problem?

Sorry for all the questions, but I couldn't wait to ask my doctor and my appointment is 10 days away

I found out I had PCOS when I hit TTC 8months. I was pretty pro-active from the beginning because I just knew something was up!

I say the earlier the better with the diagnosis. Even though mine was picked up early-I'm now in my 14th month TTC and am STILL having ongoing tests. With all the Fertility specialists/wasted months on Clomid/Further tests/Endocrinologists/Further tests and that's not counting the wait in between for the appointments.. That still takes a huge chunk out of a year! I doubt that your doctor is just going to sit on the problem because it's been under a year, He should start getting the ball rolling straight away.

Of course every doctor is different! Mine likes to dilly dally around all the red tape.

We were diagnosed with male factor infertility in August and had further tests before going on the IVF waiting list in February - treatment should be within 12 months. Good luck

We are ttc 7 months now and being diagnosed with PCOS I am going now to see what they say. I want a full set of bloods doing first. I say if you think there is something up then go. I wish I'd not waited this long - first appt tomorrow

This is a good post because I've been waivering on when to make an appointment with the specialist. To answer your question my dr & I knew we needed assistance after 3 m/c's and an ectopic with no real reason for any of the above. I'm still recovering from the ectopic though which makes me unclear about when to call the specialist. Since it sounds like it all takes forever it makes sense to call soon, but then i'm not sure if under the circumstances its better for me to wait till the ectopic is completly resolved?? I'm leaning towards waiting till the numbers are back in the 500 range and still decreasing.

We discovered the problems with my husbands sperm this month, which was month 13 of very active TTC, and year 3 of no contraception and are waiting for our first FS appointment. ICSI has been mentioned so we may well be in for the treatment ride, well have to see

I'm on month 11 and I just started Clomid a few days ago. I always had irregular cycles, so my Dr. warned me when I went off of birth control that I may have a hard time TTC. She advised that I call after 6 months to discuss whether or not my cycles were regular. Since then I've had an HSG test, ultrasound, and multiple blood tests to determine that I am not ovulating. My OH also had a semen analysis. My Dr. said the typical protocol is 1 year, but she knew of my problem and was willing to start treatment a little early.

I think it partly depends on your Dr. and where you live. Our healthcare in the US is private, so things move a bit faster than in the UK, for example.

I am currently in my 11th month. I however have short cycles, so this is cycle # 13...i think... anyway I went to the doctor in month 10 because I was at the end of my rope with painful periods. She thinks endo is a better than average possibility so I am scheduled for a lap later this month! I am also from the US so my doc told me 12 months before infertility treatment, but when I went in at 10 months for pain we went ahead and discussed the fertility factor then. Especially since it had already been 12 cycles, im only 24 yrs old, and have never been on the pill. So....

I was diagnosed with 'unexplained infertility' (great!) after just a year and a bit of TTCing. Need to go back in 6 months if still no luck for a chat about IVF. They work fast in my area. ;-)

We started trying last August and tried for 6 mths before we figured something must be up. After me being cleared by my doc (trans vag sono, reg sono, blood work). DF did a semen analysis and came back with azoospermia. (no sperm) That was January. He's had numerous blood tests, a few more semen analysis', urine tests, and saw a urologist and a endocrinologist. Two days ago we had our intake consultation with the fertility clinic. Yesterday he went for more blood work to see if we could pin point the problem and if it'd be passable to a male offspring (if we EVER have one!)
Your doc would get the ball rolling asap too I assume. My doctor checked me was because I have a son from a previous relationship. Given that info HIS doc went ahead an ordered the SA. Since you've been diagnosed already there's no point on waiting.

Of course I'm in Toronto so all the specialists are at our fingertips, and my doc is excellent! Shes affiliated with St. Michael's so appts were swift. Just be thankful you don't have to PAY for it!!!! My cousin in the states was just diagnosed with PCOS and is having a nightmare of a time with her insurance coverage and she can only see certain docs! It's costing her an arm and a leg!
