Just out of interest.....

Hi girls,

Do any of your OH/DH smoke ? Do you often wonder if this is the reason we can't conceive ? I have had several conversations with DH about quitting but it falls on deaf ears. FS and Doctor have both recommended he stops smoking. It does get me upset as I am doing all I can, blood tests, examinations, doctors, hospital appointments and the latest being HSG and he hasn't had to do anything other than produce a SA. Incidentally SA came back normal. He smokes 10 a day ....mmm I don't know just thinking aloud really. After 2 1/2 years of TTC and nothing it does makes you wonder.

What do you all think ? anyone else in a similar situ ?

I made a deal with my DP that if he went for his SA (he was very against the idea) and it came back clear I would stop nagging him about eating healthier, drinking alcohol etc. Apparently he has super sperm and I have never heard the end of it since!!! He still eats and drinks the same

I just assumed that was the end of it I didn't realise that it may make a difference to ongoing fertility even if his results came back good. Did the experts have any scientific reasoning behind the suggestion? It's really interesting.

Hi jeanettekaren,

Well even though DHs SA results came back normal the FS said they can always be improved. Because smoking effects the sperms motility and morphology then he suggested he gives up to increase our chances of one or more of the swimmers catching my eggie .. I guess it makes sense really.

I don't know Hun! But neither of us smoke and still haven't got a in three years So smoking can't really be the only reason. And my friends DH smokes but she is pregnant.

My husband smokes about a pack every 2 days. His SA came back very poor. I have begged him to quit but he just wont. He is getting surgery for a varicocele vein and on tons of vitamins, starting last week, so Im really hoping this will make some changes. It just hurts me because I would do anything to have a baby with him and he wont give this up I have been told his smoking isnt whats causing his sa to be so low, but it could help if he quit.
