PCOS - Metformin or Chlomid

Hi,

i'm off to see the gynaechologist this friday for my first consultation after having negative "day 21" test results (not ovulating).

I have it in my head that I want to be prescribed chlomid but my partner says i shouldnt pin all hopes on this and that they may try metformin first.

Just wondered if anyone had been in this situation and wondered what they were offered....Metformin or Chlomid?

thanks ladies...

Hi Ya,

I was prescribed Metformin first, and was told to see how I went with that. Quite a lot of women with PCOS find that metformin helps restore ovulation. It certainly helped me get a more regular cycle. I had not had periods for years and I am now having periods every 10-12 weeks. The side effects are a bit dodgy though! It gives you a poorly tummy for a while until you get used to taking it.

I had been on Metformin for 2 years before they tried Clomid. That was partly due to my weight as well, I had to loose a certian amount before they would prescribe it. Clomid didn't work for me.

I know it's frustrating cos you just want to be able to take some wonder miracle drug that will instantly make you pregnant!

Good luck

I was on Metformin prior to starting TTC so for about the past 20 months, and been ttc for 14 months. At my first FS appt they gave me Clomid which I start tomorrow (they are also going to give me the HCG injection to induce ovulation after a scan to check my eggs, and then prostrogen tablets from cd 15-26). xx

Hi ladies I'm new to this site and trying to get my head around how it works.

I've just started with chlomid after postponing it for 3 months as we got married in August and I couldn't handle the wedding and the treatment at the same time. I've got pcos and have been ttc for neally 2 years and my heart is literally breaking.

I'm concerned as I have been told to take it on days 2 -6 but i have read that other people have to take it on different days. I'm worried as I don't know when to start the tablets as I seems to spot for a couple of days. Also some women on here seem to have regular check ups, scans and bloodtests and I haven't been offered any of those - just told to take chlomid for 6 months and the wait 3 months for my next appointment. I'm sooooooooooo frustrated and feel totally let down.

Anyone got any advice - I could do with a friend or 2 that knows how i'm feeling !

xxxxx
