BBC: The truth...What's it really like being a teen and pregnant for first time?

Hello -

I'm really interested in what it's like being a teenager and being pregnant for the first time - what are the good bits/bad bits, what you're looking forward to, what you're worried about... this is all for a BBC radio programme I'm making about first-time mums around the world.

If you are happy to tell me what it's like for you, please reply... and if you do. don't worry I won't automatically put you on the radio or anything, it would just be good to hear what you think. And of course if you have any questions or anything I'd be happy to answer...

A bit about me - I'm not pregnant but one of my best friends has a little boy who is baout 14 months old and another friend has just found out she's expecting a baby in December, and another is trying...

Really hope to hear from you soon...

I'm already worried about giving birth, i'm most looking forward to holding him/her for the first time, hearing his/her first words.

I'm not pregnant but I was! I'm 19 now, I was 18 when I was pregnant and gave birth. Being pregnant would've been just as rubbish if I wasn't a teenager. It wasn't circumstance that made it rubbish, it was just a rubbish pregnancy. I don't deal well with hormones, so I turned into Mrs. Crazy, and I had morning sickness the whole way through. Fell on my bump, had a pre eclampsia scare.. That said, I miss my bump, the bonding, the kicks, the scans and I can't wait to give birth again when I have my next baby. (I'm not pregnant now.)

i was 14 when i fell pregnant and 15 when i had my daughter Amelia. Telling my dad was probably the worst out of everything, he flipped an came back after 3 days but eventually we all said we would get through this as a family. i found out i was too late for an abortion (i was 5 months when i found out i was pregnant as i showed no signs eg. periods carried on as normall) as soon as my family heard about that they started pushing me for the adoption route and i always did what my parents wanted to i agreed but when it got to 8 months into the pregnancy i couldnt go through with it because thats not what i wanted and it was breaking me appart so in the end my family came round to the idea of keeping the baby and from then on were very happy. i am so glad i made that desicion i dont know what i would do without her now, i am still in education and are currently taking my GCSE's. i have found it hasnt stopped me from doing anything i want i just have to simply go round it another way. some of my friends have left because they "cant be bothered with the hassle" but im happier than ever and thats all that counts is that me and Amelia are happy.

I hope this helps

I'm 20 at the moment but was a teenager for 6 months of my pregnancy. So hopefully my answers might be a little help (not sure if I'm too old though!).

I must admit that at the moment I live with my MIL after loosing my job last year - It's brilliant being pregnant and not having to worry about the things I did last year, paying bills, buying food, getting rent as I would imagine most pregnant teenagers would also have it.

I never planned on being pregnant but being so now seems to all make sense - All the advantages that come with being young and having a young child are great (having more energy, being able to relate more perhaps because school wasn't that far off etc) and by the time my child is old enough to start school, I will only be 25 - able to start my career and never have to put it on pause later for pregnancy.

The only thing that has bugged me through this pregnancy is the stigma. Whilst I haven't had too many glares, it's taken me months to get over 'I'm a pregnant teen, I must be scum' mentality. (Actually I think that went away when I turned 20 -so I kind of cheated). It's horrible - it affected my confidence, my attitude and really didn't help during those 'downs' you get.

Also one woman, after finding out that I was pregnant at 19, went on to advise me to go to college and get some GCSEs - I almost hit her, I got 9 As, 1A* and 1 B at GCSE and 3 Bs at A-level. I also had the chance to go to Uni, both Glasgow and Birmingham accepted me but after being there for a few months I decided it wasn't for me. Since when does being a pregnant teenager mean you're dumb and didn't get any GCSEs?!

I could go on, but I'd probably bore you =P Feel free to PM me if you like

I was 18 when I got pregnant and 19 when I gave birth.

Honestly, shallow as it seems, I was mostly afraid of "looking like a mom", getting stretchmarks, gaining a pile of weight I wouldn't be able to lose, etc. I worried about typical teenage things like people giving me dirty looks or people talking about me.

Didn't fear giving birth because it meant pregnancy would be over at last!

Worried about finances & my education... but never worried about my relationship lasting.

Worried baby would be sick, etc.. just like every pregnant woman does!

Looked forward to my ultrasounds, hearing baby's heartbeat (needed reassurance she was still alive in there!) umm loved to buy clothes and stuff to decorate the room... baby showers were a blast too.

Missed and still miss my friends & my social life, going out to party (drink, dance, etc), smoking..

I was, and still am, really excited to have my own little family and to start my life.
