damn toothache

for a couple of years ive had a dodgy tooth ive had it filled twice and the fillings have eventually broken and now at almost 38 weeks pregnant the damn thing has gone again and im in agony , painkillers arent touching it and i darent take anything stronger( been taking co-codamol)

so am going to ring the dentist in the morning and try to get an emergency app for him to take the damn thing out (am thinking i dont want it kicking off and keeping me up all night when i have a newborn to deal with)

are local anaestetics safe when pregnant??
i dont fancy having it out with nothing
wish me luck

Hey hun,

Tell me about it I have just come back from emergency dentist as I was up all night with toothache ... not helping having a v.stressful weekend but it was eventually a dead tooth that was decaying and so they numbed it and took the nerve out ... i still have numb mouth but atleast the pain has stopped ...be careful what drugs you are taking they only say take paracetomol....nothing stronger. Make a dentist appointment first thing .... and they should make you a priority, put icepack or cold peas on the pain also as this numbs it...its rotten it really is

Yes they can take it out with anaesthetic, if they already have an x-ray of the tooth. If there is no previous x-ray then the dentist may decide to just take the nerve out of the tooth and finish the treatment after you've had baby.

I broke a tooth at 5 months and had it taken it out, no problem. It was an emergency visit. They didn't take an x-ray but one look at the tooth and the dentist said it couldn't be saved. Novacaine is perfectly safe during pregnancy and you want to get it taken care of right away. Otherwise it could abcess and that could harm the baby.
