Cots v Cribs

Hi.

This might seem like a silly question but I'm all confused...

Is is OK to put a brand new baby straight into a cot rather than a crib or moses basket? We're really strapped for space (credit crunch has meant our flat won't sell so we're stuck for the time being) but already have a cot from our daughter so were thinking we'd just put the new baby in there.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance.

x

Yes you can put a newborn straight into a cot. Most people don't because they want baby to room in for the first few months and need something smaller for by the bed or whatever.

Some babies feel a bit lost in a cot, but you can get positioners, which are padded buffers to put either side of baby to help it feel more secure.

As long as you place baby with its feet against one end of the cot it's fine :-)

Yeah of course it is babe...just make sure to position baby right at the bottom of the cot so it can't snuggle under the sheets (if you're using them), I always use sleeping bags though so you don't have that worry.

Thanks! The cot is up right next to our bed - after 6 months we'll be moving onto a sofa bed in the lounge and stinkpot can have our bedroom! I'll have a look out for the padded buffer things. It's not a huge cot - we bought it for my daughter 10 years ago but she was such an awful sleeper that she didn't manage to sleep even one whole night in it...I'm hoping this one will be better as I really can't face another 4 years of sharing a bed with a wriggling small person!

Really appreciate the advice - even though we've already got one child it feels so long ago since I had a baby that I'm starting to worry that I've forgotten how to do everything...
