Panicking about C Section at 37 weeks

I have been to see my consultant today and she has said that she will deliver me next week (Thurs) at 37 weeks due to my SPD, me not being able to get round much (of at all) cos of the pain and my strong family history of blood clots.

I thought that it was what I wanted as I am in agony all the time and am worried about getting a clot but I am now petrified as there's a higher risk of C Section babies born with breathing problems at 37 weeks than if they waited until 39 weeks.

The baby was measuring 6lb 3oz at 34 weeks and my own dates agree with this as I think I am a week further on than they say which would actually make me 38 weeks next Thurs but I am petrified that something will go wrong and that I will be to blame cos I wanted an early C Section. The consultant said she is happy to do it as long but made me aware of the risks.

Sorry for the whinge but I am all panicky now although it has helped to calm me down just by typing so thankyou !!!

awww try not to worry so much, its safer to have c section earlier they wouldnt prob leave you till later with a planned c section incase you go into labour before hand.

all the best x

hi I agree with mummymadness they dont offer early births unless the benefits outwiegh the risks. at 37 weeks breathing issues your baby has (if any) are likely to be minor in any case

my son was born 35+6 and the only problem he had was that for the first hour he had "grunty" breathing BUT that improved on its own (he was never taken to special care) and he was even able to come home with us as normal the next day, he was 5 pounds 8 by the way

I am having a planned section at 37 weeks also, my last 2 were born at 36 weeks by section and had no problems. 37 weeks is classed as full term any way so there is nothing to worry about there hun xxx

Thank you so much girls. I feel much better now and the panic has subsided. I actually had a decent nights sleep and feel like a new woman today! I suppose I had better stop worrying so much and get on with tidying and getting excited!!!!

8 more sleeps to go!!! (as my 4 year old dd keeps shouting!)
