36 week MW appt. RANT!

Just got back from seeing the midwife, she had a student nurse with her too so was payin her more attention than me!
Takes my BP all fine, Asked about swelling i said yes i do in my hands n feet she said all fine , weighed me n said ive put on about 35 lbs which is around 2.5stone n apparently more than average n wot i shud have put on - thanks! Tried to feel for baby and had a hard time distinguishing her head n butt lol, eventually said she was head down but has a very large head n she isnt engaging (god knows if she even will) Her HR was fine 134-143 which is slightly slower than it usually is.
She had me do some swabs for MRSA coz apparently im at a higher risk of needing a c-section (nice of them to tell me last week!!)
Oh n i mentioned about having the sweep done at 38 weeks to which she replies 'oh they'll do them at bath hosp for u when you go there' i was like i dont need to go there (its 15 miles away) the doc said id have em done here, so she said 'ohh right...well... you can go to trowbridge to have them done (which is 7 miles away) why the frick cant i have them done where i see the mw, 2 mins round the corner grrrr!!

so not only did she tell me my baby has a very large head, ive put on too much weight n i more than likely gona have a section she made me feel less reassured about her size n how shes doin

Wot a shitty MW n wot a shitty appt

Sorry for the rant

I think it's pretty routine for them not to do sweeps at the mw if there early sweeps they r generally done at hosp, sorry you had a rough app xx

Aww hun sorry your appointment didnt go the way you hoped ! I have only been weigh at my 12 week scan, wish they would as my scales are broke at home. I asked my midwife at my 25week app if I requested it could I have a sweep at 38weeks and she said no which I was expecting her to as it follows nice guidelines of no intervention until 40 week; she says if i wanted a sweep i would have to swap from midwife led care to consultant as they were the only ones who could do it at 38 weeks. I hope everything goes well for you! xx

community mw yea? seems a general thing for these ones to be uninformative and crap - my mom was talking to my friend and telling her about my..'issues' with discharge, now when i told my MW this, she gave me a swab stick, told me to go into the toilets and swab myself internally (now i have never had one before so assumed it was normal) according to my mothers friend, this was disgraceful and i should report her as a lazy MW (And i have asked to change twice and been denied) as she should be doing it as an internal and looking at any pads i bring? not had anything she doesn't care...i did complain ages ago through the NHS website but nadda - so i would suggest complaining, but theres never guarrentee they'll do anything about it sorry it was a crap day for you hunny im hoping they deal with you much better next time xxx

Ive got a growth scan next week anyway to check her size n she was like 'well shes not measuring huge just 38 weeks' yeah that mixed in with a large head im glad im having the scan!!

gosh so its not even like its your first experience with her? awful bloody awful, if anything in this pregnancy it has got me wondering why they bother with these community MW's all i ever hear off others is how rubbish and lazy they are - id rather go into hospital for my fortnightly checks than see these people. I had a student who was 'third year having a test' on tues....my actual MW left her alone for most of the whole process and even the student said 'i dont like it when she leaves me she shouldn't be doing it' some of them obv see it as just a job...i don't think you can be like that within a job where lives are at steak...

After her care last time with DS i said to my OH i wana train to be a MW as she is total bollox, i cud do a much better job than she does n im still as determined so train to be one, we need more support n care than we're gettin!!

awwww you poor love, sometimes they take the p**s mymw has been less than forthcomeing with the sympathy/compassion/advice i thgauht was supposed to be a mw's basic skills, i havent had as bad as an app as you though. Just take her with a pinch of salt is all you can do and hope she was having an off day. I think its pretty normal for a sweep to be done in a proper maternity unit, not so nice if your in a rural area
