Anti-Natal classes (UK)

Hi ladies,

In my area when you get your pregnancy pack from the doctor/MW, you get a form to fill out about attending Anit-Natal classes, then they pass it onto (i'm guessing) the local classes in the area???

I was starting to wonder about the fact i haven't heard anything yet even though i'm 32 + 4, so i rang my local childrens centre, and the said you usually start around 20 weeks!!

I have basically missed my Anti-Natal classes!!

She did say that they could maybe fit me in on the next round etc, but surely that means i'm going to be the most pregnant person there??!!

I know this is my second baby, but i really enjoyed going to the Anti-Natal classes before when i was pregnant with my DD, and DH enjoyed them too.

I just don't know if it's worth even going now??!! I'm gutted!!

Do you think i should ring the doctors to see why my form never got handed in??

Aaarrggghh!!

well, when i had my DD, i didn't have a single clue about how to look after a baby, that's why we went the 1st time, and my DD is nearly 3, so i wanted to go for a re-cap! lol

I made some friends the 1st time, who then met up with when DD was born and did baby classes, baby massage etc, together, it was lovely, and they all live locally too.

Just wanted the same again.

I guess if they can fit me in, i should go, and i really enjoyed them last time. xx

You only get 2 classes the way it works with the hospital im at, and my first one wont be til im 36wks. Maybe there would be something like that in your area that's a condensed version for further along ladies??

Oh goodness, go go go ..I've just done a course with the NCT and it was fab .. most of the girls there were much further forward than me, one one actually had her baby 5wks early after the first session a few wks ago .. so you've got plenty of time ..

It will be 10 yrs since my dd when LO pops along and I found I was completely clueless .. a lot changes in just a couple of years in the medical field .. what they expect and what the research says works best .. I didn't know too much the first time around but knew this time I wanted to do things slightly differently so I want to know as much as possible so I can try to have a really relaxed birth and know that my body is doing everything it needs to..

as you say, it also puts you in touch with some others in the same position .. great to have an instant circle of other Mums you know.. I don't make friends too easily so the extra encouragement the classes give me to open up works great for me..

and if you're a little earlier than some other Mums at the class don't worry, they'll all be desperate to see / hold and hear about your LO !!

Good luck!
