Ouch, calf pain

Been awake since about 5.30 because of calf cramp. My legs are so sore!! I can't straighten them out to walk properly, as I found out when I got up to go for a wee and almost fell over!! It kind of feels like when you've been out in the cold for ages, and you come in and your muscles start to warm up again?? Apart from I wasn't cold, I was in bed, and it hasn't gone away. Grr. Just Wang it to ease off, so uncomfortable!!x

Ouchie! Are you a bit dehydrated? I sometimes find I get cramp in my legs if I am dehydrated (it usually happens in the summer if I've been drinking tbh)

x

Urgh I got this about 2 week ago, i was only sat watching tv and it was sooo painful it felt like my calf just 'locked' up. Luckily OH has had sports injuries and massaged it for me, but I'm such a whimp that I was almost in tears cause I thought I was losing a leg! Hahaha, idoit!

God knows how I'm going to cope with labour pain!

I don't think I'm dehydrated, was up till 2 watching greys anatomy (little addicted...lol) and drinking water all evening. Probably had almost a litre of apple juice this morning. Trying to get my amniotic fluids up by tomorrow before my appoitment so drinking loads at the moment. I want an oh that massages me!! Fib asked ME for a back massage the other day as his shoulder ached...umm...no, I've been aching for months and he does nothing. Grrr. Men. Just want it to ease off, need to pop out at some point today but can't really walk anywhere!! I was going to have a bath...but there's a huge spider in it...so a shower it is!! Hope your hip ache goes soon!! I bought some of those heat pads for my back over the weekend as that was aching, amazing things!! Helped so much!!xx

eat something salty (salted peanuts, ready salted crisp) main cause of cramp is by lack of pottasium in the mussles. when i swam my mile my instructor handed me a handfull of salted peanut half way though (difficult to eat while swimming lol) to stop cramp setting in. hope it helps and you are are feeling better soon

on a side note yey you are 33 weeks only 4 more weeks to keep that little fella in there to be cased as full term

I've been having the same problem, lots of calf cramps, especially at night. My thighs hurt often, as well. I drink a lot of water but also have probably more sodium in my diet than I should, so I'm not sure about the advice of eating something salty. Maybe something like a banana everyday? (Contains potassium.) Have you tried magnesium supplements and stretching before bed? I think the stretching makes it slightly better for me, and my doctor recommended magnesium pills, though I didn't notice a difference with them.

Hope it goes away for you soon, hon!

Wow .. I had this about a month ago .. woke up in agonising pain with cramp in leg in the middle of the night and although the spasm went after about 3 mins it left me with constant pain for a couple of days.. I came to conclusion that the cramp had been so strong that it had torn the muscle a bit. . I tried all the muscle rubs, warm bath, hot water bottle etc but the second day I actually got the TENS machine out and put it on a very low setting either side of the muscle .. I mean, I couldn't walk or anything so had to do something ...

good test for the TENS machine though..

Try heat, cold (frozen peas / ice), heat, cold ten mins each, hot bath etc

Good luck!

I had this too, i decided to go to the doctors about it after i had it 4 times in a row one night, my whole leg (from the knee down) went completely rock hard and it felt like my muscle was twisting, i can honestly say it was probably one of the worst pains i've ever felt (and i've been through labour!!) haha

Doc suggested doing excersises with my legs/ankles, so basically rotating my ankles clockwise/anticlockwise and then moving my heels/toes up and down, and having a hot water bottle on my calves when i go to bed.

It has worked absolute wonders!

Maybe try that ladies?

Good luck! xxx
