Iron tablets?

Is anyone else on iron tablets, got a letter from doctors on saturday saying i am slightly anaemic from my last blood test results along with a perscription to take the 210mg ferrous fumarate 3 times a day. It's only been 3 days and wow am i ill today, (tmi) - Making me have black stools and the diorreha is really bad making me feel really sick and dizzy

Is this common or do they not agree with me, can't imagine staying on them with this effect there's 100 to take arghhhh.

Ive been on them for wks and my pooo is black but I havent got the rest. I did hear that it doesnt agree with some people. I would say to ur doc

Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....I was pretty anaemic and had to start taking iron tablets straightaway too. They usually make you constipated but like you....seem to have had the opposite effect on me this time. Your poo will be green or black coz it's the way your body gets rid of the excess iron, don't worry about that. I'm sure you'll be fine after you've been on them for a bit.

I'm not giving medical advice or anything and you may wanna check with your midwife or Dr over the phone....but if they're disagreeing with you that much and you're only a bit anaemic then ask if you can cut down the dosage to one or two iron tablets a day

iv been on them altho i keep forgetting to take them lmao they make mine black to but they make me constipated

The pain is unbearable maybe its a one off for today though, everything seems to be going wrong at the moment i think i'm gna try drinking lots of water to flush it out of my system and then cut down the amount i'm taking for a bit. Yikes

Thats a big dose you got also its usually only one of them tabs a day. I was on that for years. Pooh got used to it though but for a good while it does make constipation bad. I was on them partly throuhg pregnancy but went off them as they made me sick.

I have my midwife appointment tomorrow luckily, i thought it seemed like a lot for someone who was only slightly anaemic just waiting for my midwife to get back to me to see if i can cut down the amount. I'll be annoyed if they've told me to take too much unecessarily and its made me really ill god knows how i'm gna get through the day its as if aliens have taken over my body, not fun when hobbling around in a leg cast. lol

Whenever I've had them they make me constipated to the point of extreme pain but never gone the other way! Hope your mw has an answer for you hun xxx

Do you think i should brave it tash and carry on taking them, just hope my body gets used to them as oposed to stopping and starting again and having to get used to them from the start and going through it again? How long did yours last maybe its just a 24 hour thing. xx
