parent craft classes

What does everyone think of 'parent craft' classes? Our midwife is funny. I asked a question and she told me to shut up! LOL said it was for the mums to ask questions.

We haven't started ours yet, we do it all in one day here and ours is 3rd Jan so looking forward to it!

Seems funny dads can't ask qs too though - a bit unfair even! This is my 2nd but my hubby's first so I'm sure he'll be full of qs.

lol she sounds funny. I did my parent craft classes with my first one and then 8 yrs later with my second. Won't bother now I am on my 4th as I know things change but it's a bit like me telling every one else there what happens lol. Hope you enjoy them xxx

Why are they called 'parent craft' rather than anti natal classes, was at MW yesterday and she referred to them as that and I've not heard that term before ?

My DH had loads of questions to ask at our classes, the midwife was great and answered evrything really well. She really put my DH at ease (he was the only guy there). I was really proud that he asked so many questions although wished he hadn't asked about the placenta and when they have to assess it!!!!!
If you have anymore classes just keep asking the questions xx

we really like our classes even though i done it before alot has changed in 14 yrs.... my oh asked why do they check plancenta's and she was really happy to answer said it was good for the dads to ask because they dont sit for hours with their head in books like most of the girls.

i have got my oh a book and i quzzed him a few times he reckons that waters only break if bubba has long nails i told the mw she was in stitches

My parentcraft classes were brilliant! So informative and our midwife, who is actually male, really knew his stuff and was very humourous with it! We even got a tour around the maternity unit on the last session which put my mind at ease a lot!

Edited to say I think it's really wrong that the midwife told you it was only the Mum's who could ask questions! My OH is always asking our midwife all sorts of questions - he thinks up questions I haven't even thought about! But then he's always reading up on things more than me and comes out with all kinds of stuff! lol I think more Dad's should get involved and ask questions!

We only got 1 3hr session but the midwives were good, they encouraged the Dads to askquestions - I think Matt would have been really annoyed if he'd been told that - you're both going to be parents afterall!

I think some people use to get confused between antenatal classes and antenatal appointments. I suppose parentcraft is more appropriate anyway.

I found them really useful when me and hubby went to them. they only seem to cater for 1st time parents though and don't have refreshers for people who already have kids which is a shame as it's nice to meet people in similar situations as yourself.

Was the midwife joking....I hope so as a lot of Dad's to be are nervous enough to start with and this could put some off asking important questions

our 'course' distinguish between antenatal classes - the first four, which focus on antenatal care, labour, pain relief, etc. The last session is on parentcraft which is how to put on a nappy and bathe a baby.

My biggest surprise is that everyones partners have come to all the sessions - event he breastfeeding one - each class is 2 1/2hrs long during the working day!!!!
