Baby size...5 pound / 10pound???

How is a babies weight determined? I mean is there anything you can do/not do during pregnancy to 'select' a weight if you know what I mean?

This might sound daft but my friend recently gave birth 2 days after her due date and she ate like a horse and the baby was 7lbs 8oz...everyone was expecting a 10 pounder!!

This might be a really silly question :P but i was just curious x

Well my bubs is measuring small...and consultant told me if i stuff myself with cakes and fatty food the only thing it would do would give me more weight to lose after haha!!!!
So i don't think it makes a massive difference. Just some have big and some have small.

I asked my Dr after finding out that DH was a 9 pounder. She said that new research is showing that the sperm DNA affects the plecenta size and that, in turn, affects the size of the baby. Big plecenta = big baby.

So, long story short... we have no say, just blame it all on your OH!!

LOL!
The only thing that i know of that can affect baby size is gestational diabetes that isn't controlled - that's the main thing the clinic seems worried about. too much sugar i your blood means that the baby gets too much sugar too and gets fat around it's middle.

I think most of your baby's size has to do with how big you were, how big the father was.. I don't think it's good to try to eat a lot to make a bigger baby, nor is it good to eat little to make a smaller one.. just let nature have its way I guess lol

In general women will produce babies the right size for their bodies. If you have a small pelvis and are very petite the chances of having a 10lb baby isn't great.
