Urgent Advice Please?

Right, Sorry it's long...... I'm starting to get myself in a right tizz worrying about this now (damn you - google)

Originally, based on my LMP my original due date should have been 2nd November. However when I went for my "12 week" scan they measured baby and put me 4 weeks behind at only 8 weeks. This gave me a new due date of 2nd December. My 20 week scan also confirmed a due date of 2nd December.

However now, my fundal height measurements are measuring a couple of weeks ahead... Basically I'm worried that I'm either already overdue or by the time I wait til 2 weeks after my DD I'll be really overdue and the blood flow to the placenta and the fluid level will be so low it will harm baby. It probably sounds really irrational but it's worrying me sick, I haven't had a scan for over 18 weeks - baby could have caught up with the size difference?!!!

I've never called the MW before so not sure if I would just sound like I'm rambling if I called and how willing are they to let me have a scan?? Would a scan show the placenta function etc??? I feel so silly writing this but I just don't know what do do x x

I would ring your MW just to explain they put you back 4 weeks and tell her your concerns.

Dont feel daft for ringing her youre only worried for your LO and she will understand that.

it's better to be safe than sorry and hopefully it will put your mind at rest xxx

I would give your midwife a call, she can either put your mind at rest - I know a lot of people who have had very unreliable readings from their fundal height measurements - or send you for a quick scan. Don't worry about sounding silly, it's more important you know what's going on

I'd give her a call too just to say that you're worried, but the fundal height measurements really aren't very accurate, and the 12 week scan can estimate your dates to within 3 days (I think) so the date you've been given is almost definitely right - or a few days out at the most. There is a huge difference between 12 weeks and 16 weeks so if you had been further along they would have known (especially if your 20 week scan gave you the same date).

Growth rates vary more towards the end (obviously as there's a big range in birth weights) so even if you're measuring a bit big now I wouldn't worry x

hi hun when i went for an early scan with ruby i think i thought i was about 7/8 wekks but there was no hb so they put me back to 5wks and i went back 2 weeks later her hb was there and she measured 7wks 12 scan she measured 12wks & 20 week scan 20 weeks i then had 2 more hospital scans and 2 4d scans, on all of these she measured back to the day of my original dates, i spoke to a consultant who said the reason you are dated at 12 weeks is becuase all fetus' are more or less the same size at that point but for not long after hence different birth weights. so i'm sure your little princess, like Ruby is a liitle bit bigger than 'average' dont worry hun i'm sure she's fine in there cookin away nicely xxxx

try not to worry yourself about it hun they are very accurate with scans at such an early point, i was put 2 and half weeks back and it was obvious my dates were wrong because at what was meant to be my 13 week scan my baby has no arms or legs just stumps so i obviously wasnt 13 weeks lol my midwife told me at that early stage they are very accurate with scanning because at that stage they all grow the same really! my fundal height was 2 weeks ahead just a couple of weeks ago, and now its right on dates again, its not always correct hun xxx

Hiya I had an early scan at 7 weeeks and then again at 12 weeks and was actually put forward a week so i dont really understand why they do the estimated dd then the agreed dd and never thought to ask, but if your worried deffinately call your mw and tell her that an extra scan would put your mind at rest they can deffinately tell from a scan how well your placenta is functioning and tour fluid levels etc..

I would ring your mw hun, she can explain it all a hell of a lot better than any of us could even attempt to lol and hopefully put your mind at ease.

Like has been said i dont think fundal height is too accurate or they go strictly with that, there always a bit of give and take.

Hope you can get it all sorted out hun
