Elevated white blood count

Is it true then that the white blood cell count is slightly increased in pregnancy? I just saw mine and even though the doctors where fine with the levels i am concerned???

They are naturally raised in pregnancy due to your bodies way of suppressing your immune system. It pumps out more WBC to deal with any infection that may be there to counteract the immune system suppression. You have to remember that there are so many different types of WBC, most are generic, they will deal with anything and some are more specific. Once they identify what RBC is raised they can narrow down what may be causing it.

But usually it's nothing to be concerned about, just a random pregnancy thing.

thank you for the fast reply! i am just so scared at the moment. i went into hospital with expected ectopic pregnancy andthank God it turned out to be normal. I was discharged but i noticed on my reports that the WBC was 14% so i asked and the doc just said it slightly high and its ok cos you're pregnant!??
