how many wks can u find out sex

hi all.
just wondering what it the earliest in weeks that you can find out the sex of baby?
i know its 20 wks in nhs but if i go private how soon can they see the sex?

16 weeks, but it's clearer at 20

i think il have a scan at 16 wks then and find out, im to inpatient to wait untill 20 wks.

It's more accurate at 20 weeks though, you might be told the wrong sex earlier.

Why so eager to find out?

I know its a bit weird at first, calling the baby "it", rather than "he" or "she", but you'll be pregnant for a very long time in the end, 4 weeks doesn't make much of a different I think... in the long run... pregnancy seems to be all about waiting... and waiting... and waiting some more... apparently eventually we'll have a baby!

i had a private scan a while ago and was told the earliest they can tell is 21 weeks to get an accurate prediction and the latest was 32 (although i was 33) your best to wait a few weeks to get an accurate answer if u can as you may risk getting a wrong sex prediction if you go too early but these things are never 100% guaranteed anyway.

My clinic liked to do the scan at 22-24 weeks because the organs are very recognizable and they can see things more clearly. I think it is more important to make sure everything looks in order than to just know the sex...But they can tell very early on...
