Sorry to hear you have this. It is the softening of the ligaments in the pelvis (which occurs at some point in all pregnancies but in those with SPD, it happens too early) This leads to the pelvis separating and causes varying degrees of pain and discomfort in the pelvis/groin/thighs and/or back.

I was told last week that I too have it, following some bad pains in my thighs, groin and a crunching/grinding noise coming from my pelvis! I have been fitted by the physio with a support bandade (like a long piece of tubigrip which goes from under my boobs to below my hips, where is doubles up for extra support).

I have been advised to keep my legs together as much as possible and be especially careful when climbing stairs, getting in and out of the bath, the car and bed. Some people suffer from it really severely but I think mine is pretty mild at the moment. They didn't offer me physio but that's probably because I am too far along for it to be beneficial.

Oh, and you need to write it in your pregnancy notes and let them know when you go into labour as it can affect the position they put you in to push, etc.

There are lots of girls on here with it who I'm sure can offer you more advice and there is also loads of info online.

Hope it doesn't become to sore for you

I had it with both my girls, was mostly in bed for several months while I was pregnant because of it. I used crutches and sometimes a wheelchair. I still have it even though my younger is 3.5 years old. Don't worry though, most don't get it that bad and it's supposed to go away when the baby is born

I recommend physical therapy, pregnancy swim classes, pregnancy pillow between your legs and a sliding sheet for your bed Also, don't do much bending over, make your OH do housework if possible, just try to take care of yourself, watch your posture and the way you do things like getting out of bed etc, you physical therapist should be able to point these things out.

I've heard good things about acupuncture but never tried it myself.

Good luck with the SPD, I hope it won't get too bad

Owch the things us women go through, thanks for your replies. My physio is on the 10ths its a group session at first where it says they will show us various exercises to try and ive been told about watching how i move etc and at work im in the office now so im pretty lucky with that. when i was till supervising it got to the point where i couldnt walk so im glad i went to see the doc when i did rather then putting it off - im terrible for going to see doctors lol.
