need some help on a big decision ladies *decision page 2*

hey gurls

well as some of you may know i went to look at a birthing centre yesterday which is just out side of hull. It is amazing so relaxed the birthing pools are lovely and its so different to hospital its unreal.

But
  1. They dont give epidurals ( i didnt want one really so no big deal)
  2. and if there is any major complications like babys heartbeat dropping or anything like that they will get an ambulance to transfer me to the womens and childrens hospital.

The last one worries me. They have reassured me they have never lost a mother of baby when a transfer was nesscary and they keep a really close eye on me and baby to make sure everything is ok. And if their is a slight inclination that something might be going worng they will get me transferred straight away and if i really end up wanting and epidural they will transfer me too.

so im really stuck on if i should go there or stick with the hospital

any thoughts ladies??
xx

I can understand you being a bit anxious, especially as this is your first baby. We are lucky here that our birthing centre is attached to the hospital - its at the other end of the massive campus but its still not too far away for transfers. The next town also have a birthing centre and they sound like yours - if a transfer was needed its about a 10 minute drive.

I'll be having Hebe at the birthing centre. If I lived in the next town I'd still opt to have her at their's even though there's that delay in an emergency.

I think you should trust your instincts honey - these midwifes know what they're doing and they wouldnt risk anything. If they were at all concerned they'd whip you in an ambulance. Just on a really selfish level they dont want to ruin their good reputation by risking anyone but they wouldnt want to as people either.

Go with what makes you feel happiest. x

Like Merv's mum said, you have to go with whatever feels right for you hun.

I personally would go for the birth centre as it will probably be more relaxed there. I had my son in a midwife led unit and the midwife stayed with me from the start to the end and i have some really positive memories of giving birth.

Go with what you think best xx

Personally, i would have gone to the hospital as its your first baby and you don't know what it will be like. If you go on to have more children you could use the birth center and rest assured having gone through labour before with no complications good luck on your decision xxx

Hey sweetie, I know what you mean. I'm having baby at our birth centre which is attahced to hospital. I think judging by an earlier conversation with Mervs Mum when I first joined it's at the same place. I come from the other town she's talked about which only has a birth centre and transfers you to the hospital at the neighbouring town if there's any problems.
It's completely your decision. I've opted to go to birth centre with hospital attached as it's my first baby and I have no idea how it will all go. The midwife at that hospital said they could transfer me really quickly if I chose to have the birth at the other birth centre closer to me, but I personally don't want the added concern. She said it takes 3 mins to transfer from their own birth centre to the hosp upstairs, so I just can't see how it'll only take 5-7 mins to get me from my home town birth centre.....

However, on the other hand, my friend has made the choice to have her baby in our home town birth centre and is confident if anything goes wrong they will get her to the hosp, the midwives have reassured her that they have done this successfully on a number of occasions. So I suppose you just have to weigh up and pros and cons of the choice sweetheart.

Hope that helps in some small way.... xxx

Its your decision, and I agree with everything Mervs Mum said about it...

However, me being paranoid, I would be going to the hospital. Here we dont use midwives so much, and I have alot of trust in the OB/GYNs that are in our hospitals.

our hospital's birth centre is on the top floor of the maternity unit, i'm hopin to have her there, and i know if i want an epidural or anythin goes wrong its literlly a case of just goin downstairs. as someone said before, they're not gona let anythin go wrong, its their reputation on the line. im gona be really unhelpful and say its entirely up to you. i'm not sure what all birth centres are like but i'm sure i've heard that at some you can only have gas&air, so that might be somethin to think about xx
