I had a couple of Glucose tests during my pregnancy and didn't develop GD so don't worry. They will take blood, give you a glucose drink (I had to provide my own Lucozade) then read a book for two hours, so don't forget to take one, then they take blood again. The results took about a week or so if I remember rightly.

I had my test a couple of weeks ago and same as babezone they came back border line so I am now being monitored by the diabetes peeps. The test is how the others have said fasting the night before bloods taken then a 2 hour wait with nothing to eat and only water for a drink then more blood taken and results for min came in a couple of days.

The diet they have put me on is just a strict no sugar or low sugar and low carb diet and I have to prick my finger to do a blood test 4 times a day. On a good note though I did get to see baby again as they scan to see if baby is getting too big.

Try not to worry too much about it and good luck with the test

I had my second GTT yesterday, as although my 1st test results were fine, bubs is measuring very big, so the docs wanted to do another test. It's not the most pleasant experience, but I reccommend you take a book or something to do for the 2 hours you have to wait, and also maybe a cushion, as I found it really uncomfortable sitting in the waiting room for so long, and at my hospital, they like you to stay in the maternity unit during the test, and not walk around too much. Good luck hun, let us know how you get on.

we were told we had to sit down and keep quiet for 2 hours they'd only let us go outside if we were feeling realy lousy! But yea, anyway, had to fast from the night before, only drinking water, went had my bloods taken then they give u this drink which is like a sour orange/pinapple type thing, followed by one glass of tap water to take the taste away, sit around for two hours and wait to be called to have your bloods taken a second time then your free to go and advised to get soemthign to eat and drink. In honesty, it's not the most pleasant of experiences but it could also be much worse. Hope it goes well for you.

Hi Kelly sorry to crash your thread but have you had any symptoms relating to unstable blood sugar? I only ask as I've been feeling rough the last few days so yesterday I went to the docs. My BP & heart rate were really high and there were ketones in my water and my blood sugar was only 1.3 so I was hypoglycaemic. I've been signed off work for a week & had to go back today for a fasting blood sugar test but not a GTT. Does any of this sound familiar to you? xxx

Wow they do the test so different here.

I had it done on Wednesday. I didn't have to fast before. I got my finger pricked, drank the drink and went back an hour later and got blood drawn. I couldn't eat, smoke, drink or chew gum between the prick and the bloods, but that was it.
