I'm Currently Feeling: | Sleeping Positions I had a midwife appointment today, and I told her about my rib pain being such a problem that I can only sleep on my back and she was horrified! She said pregnant women should never sleep on their back as it cuts off the blood supply to the baby by the way the uterus is lying.
Did anyone else know this? |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Err, my midwife told me to stop being so silly and that she slept on her back the whole time she was pregnant! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I sleep on my back sometimes but I put a pillow under me on one side so I am tilted to the left. I wouldnt worry too much - people have been sleeping on their back for years! If it was totally wrong you'd have felt funny and moved?! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Yeah, she said I have to sleep with a pillow under me from now on. I can't physically sleep on my side as it's so sore, but I feel awful as I've been sleeping on my back every night for awhile now. I've been waking up feeling dizzy and nauseous, and she said that's because of the lack of blood flow. I just feel like an idiot.
You're right though, people have been doing it for years and probably didn't know any better so Bump is more than likely fine, but I just feel stupid for putting her at risk, |

I'm Currently Feeling: | don't feel stupid hun, if nobody told you then how were you to know? I'm sure bubs is fine, I wake up on my back sometimes. I get the rib pain too, I find myself swapping from one side to the other. A pillow under the bump sometimes helps. I think it depends on how bubs is led x |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Yes they do say this but I'd like to point out that there is only one single scientific paper in which it is hypothesised that an explanation for things they observed was that a major vein gets squashed when lying on the back. This does not seem to actually have been tested at all! I'm amazed by how easily these things become pregnancy indoctrination from one paper alone when things like climate change where there is an enormous body of evidence showing that it is man-made are still disputed!
Personally I can't sleep on my back now as it's too uncomfortable on my internal organs! Nor can I sleep on my sides as my hips hurt too much. I mostly just don't sleep... |
